Sublime Roger
by SANTANU DASGUPTO on Sep 06, 2007 11:43 AM  | Hide replies

Its simply a treat to watch Roger Federer on the tennis court. Its something like poetry in motion.I had the priviledge to watch legends like Borg,McEnroe,Samprass,Becker,Connors,Agassi in their prime. But Federer seems to be from some other planet. No one else,in my opinion, combined power and grace with such elan.He is a silent assasin. You could hardly hear any grunt or any sound of his footsteps. He just mesmerizes his opponents. We must thank GOD for giving us the opportunity to witness this sublime artist, arguably the greatest of all time.

And there is not a drop of Sweat ! What a skill god has given to this guy ! I have seen all of them struggling, winning, shouting, and helpless all those (Borg, Jimmy, John, Boris, Evan, Stefan etc) but like you said never once Roger is in that mode ! This is un believable and he works with no coach.

When Roger is planning tannins is so easy, effortless, poetry, flawless but in reality it is not ! I hope next year he will have French crown too !

You are very much right. But i think He does not have much opposition. Not a player of even Goran Ivenesivic's calibre, to test fedex. There were great rivalries between Borg - Tanner connros and MacEnrow, lendle and wilander , Becker and Edberg, Sampras-Agassi-Ivenesevic. Though I very much like the way and the grace with whihc Fedex plays, I long that some one who is consistant with his serve and avoids unforced errors will emerge and be able to beat him. Sampras was very very special too.

what do u think u all guys.Everybody knows federer is gr8 player. But dont under estimate Nadal. He had already won 3 grandslams and mind u his age is only 21.Even federer has gr8 respect 4 nadal. And he said in many interviews that coming years Nadal will win many grandslams.
Yaa federer is much superior than nadal. But nadal also much superior than others. We want to see their gr8 rivalry again in coming grandslams.

And bottomline is both r gr8 players.Bcoz its not easy to win 3 grandslams in men tennis at the age of 21.Here surface is not important. If somebody can masters a surface then why not others.

Dear Tanmay,
No doubt Rafa is a very very special player. He's the only one capable of posing some sort of threat to Federer. He's got amazing perseverance.Every single point has to be earned in the hard way against him.HIs energy on court, his 'never-say-die'attitude are exemplary. But watching Roger on court is such a refreshing expierence, which no one else can match.Nadal's game is at times boring and predictable. The difference basically is that of a great artist and a great carpenter. If you consider the tennis court to be a canavas, then Federer is the greatest painter who have graced the same.

without Federer !
by bob dsouza on Sep 06, 2007 11:15 AM  | Hide replies

It would be a great rivalry between say Nadal,Roddick,Devchenko,Djokovic,Haas,Blake ,Hewitt etc if Federer would not have been on the scene.Unfortunately he nips it in the bud when he steamrolls through them.Nadal has his number for now but the advantage is slowly dwindling. He would not have matched Federer on the hard courts with due respect to him.My call is 15 - 16 grand slams for the guy but dont think he will ever win the French.

Sir:

He join the other greats like Sampras, Edberg, McEnroe,(possibly Conors) who won all other slams but bthe French. However, the difference is he reached the Finals of the French open twice and lost to Nadal.

He might win probably if Nadal slips early or the draw favours him,but if he comes up against his nemisis (Nadal) on clay ,I dont thk he will have a chance. That is the only blotch in his all conquering career

Gr8 Show Fedex
by Tapan Pattnaik on Sep 06, 2007 11:15 AM  | Hide replies

Of all the previous encounters between the duo, Roddick was the best prepared this time around. He stuck to his strenghth i.e. serve-volley & power hitting. The first two sets were a brilliant display of power hitting by both the guys. If Roddick lost out, it was not because he did not try. It was just that he was facing a legend who has the ability to handle any pressure situation with the artistic ability of a Picasso and the calm of a Zen monk. Roddick will surely get his chance, but he has to wait. Wait until this marvel of a tennis player called Federer is through with creating a legend yet unmatched in the annals of tennis history.

Roddic does not mentally believe that he can beat Fedex. His 2006 loss in finals to Federer shattered his confidence. If only he can keep his cool and restrict unforced errors, there shall come a day when he beats roger in a mojor.

Australia came to India and defeated India, Ganguly ran away seeing green top in Nagpur and under him India also lost to the weakest Pakistani team ever to tour, a tied 1-1 test series and one dayer loss. Gr8 captain whose win percentage if you remove victories against Zimbabwe and Bangaladesh is 30%.

Test Crickets Bradman of Bengal - Sourav Ganguly averages 32 against Australia, 30.66 against South Africa, 32.07 against West Indies, 28.30 against Pakistan, apart from these overall 12 year averages in test cricket, this bradman of bengal averages 30.57 in Zimbabwe and 27.71 in New Zealand. Bradman of bengal subcontinent pitches against weak opponents.

Ha ha dada performs, the tiger roars meow ..... even in one dayers this tiger averages 22 against Australia ha ha ha.....

1. Fedex is one of the greatest, no doubt, but he shud improve his record on clay, that is what is lacking in his already impressive resume.
2. When sampras was playing @ his best, ppl said that it wud be hard to break his records, but see how quickly fedex has surfaced, same might happen to fedex also.

cheers for fedex, go get another US OPEN.

djokovic can pose a challange, but his inexperience in grand slam finals and fedex moving his game a notch up when it matters the most might be a death blow for djokovic, but i hope he can fight and we c a final like wimbledon 07. cheers.

Federer continues his gr8 form. Though, Roddick seemed to have a plan today, he probably could not execute it. Roddick was serving extremely well today, but...
Federer served very well at crucial points, like the set point of the first set. Superduper ace to close the set!
Roddick has a long way to go. All the best Roddick!
And three cheers for the sublime graceful tennis supremo Roger Federer,
Hip Hip Hurrey Hip Hip Hurrey Hip Hip urrey...
