in last yr grand slams he rarely lost sets, this yr its regular phenomenon, so there is a decrease in performance, inspite of that i love fedex ... but with time now he will find it more difficult to win matches may be coz others r knowing his game better and he is ageing also, but i hope he wins atelast 3-4 grand slams before nadal and njokovic take over from him, cheers to fedex

I saw the set which he lost to Lopez....Lopez was playing extraordinarily...he was serving...making winners at will.....in some instances Federer was looking ordinary....but but as we know these players like Lopez cannot continue the momentum unike Federer or Sampras and then loose out of steam.

It has to be recognised that over time Federer will start losing more sets per match and eventualy more matches across tournaments. That is inevitable. He has set such high standards that the ambitious 17/18 year olds that are breaking through to the senior ranks know that, for one, to reach the pinnacle they have to match his standards at least. They will strive towards that from now onwards so that, in 4 years time, when they reach the peak of their atheletic glory, around 24 years of age, and, Federer reaches 30, they will finally be in a position to beat him regularly. I do not envisage a situation in the next three years where, Federer is going to lose out on his no.1 position; sure, he will win less than of yore but, still overall, he will be better than most others, if not all, except, possibly the clay court tournaments. Salute a champion.

Very correctly explained by Waran. I would like to throw bit more light on the discussion. I am fan of tennis and so likes of Federers, Nadals and Djokovics are always worth watching for me. I am following Federer right from the begining. I saw how a player with aboslutly full proof game and a erratic temprament has turned into player with same kind of game with a head cool like ice.

Federer plays a very economical game. He dont try to sweat himself unless opponents force him to. He play just at a level which is going to be enough to win him a particular match... so his level of play is determined by the level of opponent he face. In process if a player plays better than his expectation and make terafic effort like Isnar and Lopez did in first set on match against Federer, he may be in trouble for a short period. but very soon he adopt to the situation and rose to the occasion to show what he can do if he wanted to be dominative.

Every player became older, slower and weaker but the kind of game Federer posses he will continue to play like this for longer period than any one else.

well said. Ofcourse, it's impossible to play at the peak level for all the time from 18yrs to 38yrs; as age goes up, it has it's effects on the body too. Still if a player like Sampras/Agassi could win Grandslam means, it's really the hardwork, willpower, determination they put in their game. Federer also in the same level with Sampras/Agassi in showing consistency, putting hardwork, controlling emotions, having better mental strength, having willpower/determination to keep his game level in the standard he set for himself. It's easy to comment from the home about Federer's game; Federer always read the opposite player's game first and he used to change his gears based on the required situation. Not all the days are his 'off-days' as like that Montreal Final against Djokovic, that's only 3set match; when it comes to 5set match, Federer knows how to win the match.

start losing sets? it's just because of the standards he has set that you're saying he's losing sets!! i mean... u should see the way he's playing. complete dominance!!

Don't assume that Nadal is just sitting out there on Clay courts 24*7. Rafa has improved a lot on both grass and hard court. I was thrilled seeing such an exciting Wimbledon finals. Moreover it doesn't feel nice if Federer wins tamely without a challenge :).
