by attacker on Oct 22, 2007 05:31 PM  | Hide replies

cricket is too boring and slow.. this thing people also realized after the T20 format..

still T20 is too slow as compared to power sports like football, tennis, basketball etc..

indians shud awake now.. and look forward for active sports and follow the path of gr8 sporting nations like china and european nations!!

hum me bhi hai dum bas sahi rah ki jaoorat hai!!

T20 is quite low when you compare it with a sport like basketball, football or ice-hockey.

After every ball there is a pause, after every over there is a pause. The action is not non-stop. While in F1 the action is generally non-stop from start to finish (unless there is a Safety car period, where too the cars do not stop)

T20 is slow as compared to power sports like football, hockey.. u dont't understand real speed and power. before T20, u may b thinking ODI as fast.. but now u realised how slow it was..

Football is the world's most enjoyable game! It is played by most countries in the world and all it needs is a ball...unlike cricket where you need a bat and ball.

Cricket cannot even compare itself to football when it comes to enjoyment.

yeah really enojyable. 1, 2 or 3 goals scored in 90 minutes is really enjoyable, isn't it?

Definitely more enjoyable than watching batsman tap the ground, move th sight-screen, adjust centre gaurd, bowlers slowly walking back to their bowling mark, fielders jogging to fetch ball from boundary, batsmen walking singles.

Atleast in football even if there are few goals it is usually 90 mins packed with action.

Sandeep,
Please take some time to read what I said. I only said that it is played by most countries around the world and hence the most popular sport.

I have not said, hence India too should play football. India can continue playing cricket and need not feel guilty about it.

However, the fact still remains: Football is the most popular sport in the world!

quite right. but cricket suits indians since we are basically lazy and stupid by nature. in addition, indians physique is very very low quality. so we cannot wear shorts. thus cricket is a good options for us. it suits our breed.

i am not stupid and lazy. i am a double post graduate and am starting a PhD, and i can play most games quite well. i am talking about indians in general. indians are lazy, stupid and have a v poor low quality physique. sports requires a sort of a sporting intelligence which even top indian sportsmen lack.8

A suggestion!

If you are ignorant and not very well educated, it is not something you must broadcast to the world. On the contrary guard it like a secret!
Only ill-informed people have such opinions about PhD

partner, only average sportsmen from australia, new zealand, south africa and england go to cricket. most people in england don't watch cricket and don't even know much about it. top sportsmen play rugby, football, athletics etc. but their low grade sportsmen are good enough to beat out top players because we have poor quality genes and frail, weak physique. also lacking in basic common sense and sporting intelligence. slow game like cricket suits us.

He is a businessman and is expected to make money , thats not wrong and with whatever he has done with F1 in india, atleast has put india on the world map in one more way. May be F1 wont be an alternative for cricket but its a big sport and we don have any big name in it ... we might see in future a successful indian team/driver, then that will be good for national fame.

ONLY AFTER 100 YEARS, MR. MALLYA!
by Anirudha on Oct 22, 2007 05:24 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Mr. Mallya,
I appreciate your trick to promote a sport in the country and your vision. But let me defer from you, as on today, saying that F1 WILL NOT BE EVEN CLOSER TO BECOME AN ALTERNATIVE TO CRICKET IN INDIA.
An alternative sport can be there only if equal number of people get INVOLVED. Unlike Cricket, F1 is HUGELY EXPENSIVE game and people can only watch. Are you talking about a single tarck in the country, when we have close to 50 cricket venues spread across the country.
Also, let our environ expert clear the trial F1 at New Delhi. Its rich man's sport, and we do not fuel enouugh to have lights in our houses today. People would appreacite you more if you solve such issues, rather than supporting a cause of a few ones.

LONG LIVE COMMON MAN!

The electricity that YOU use to power your computer and internet access can also power a few small homes. Why dont YOU stop using your computer and other amenities for the sake of the common man??

Cricket also has become a rich man's sport...what with endorsements....match-fixing...etc. etc.

...the cricket that u see on the roads and maidans is the real cricket!...and not the one where crores are made by BCCI and the players...and the spectators have to go without decent amenities in the best of stadiums!

F1 has no chance to provide an alternative
by Sreeram Ramaswamy on Oct 22, 2007 05:12 PM  | Hide replies

Cricket is here to stay and F1, by no means, can replace cricket. If at all anything, it can be either hockey or football that can come close to being an alternative sport. Hockey can IF the Indian Hockey team improves its performance and wins world cup/olympics etc. and IHF takes initiative to promote our national game to every nook and corner of the country and attract people/sponsors like how Cricket does. All these are big IFs. F1 fades into oblivion.

INDIANS CAN NOT TOO FOOLISH TO STAY WITH CRICKET. WE SHOULD MOVE AHEAD WITH FOOTBALL, ATHLETICS, SWIMMING, BASKETTBALL, VOLLEYBALL ETC TOP MILES AHAEAD OF CRICKET. THEN ONLY WE CAN SAY OUR NATION IS PROGRESSING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. TILL THAT HAPPENS WITH BOLLYWOOD AND CRICKET, LIFE HERE IN INDIA IS REALLY BORING.

by micheal deren on Oct 22, 2007 05:01 PM

there is no comparison of cricket and F1, both have different kind of moments to enjoy. And "wins" like kimi had ,happen more often in cricket than F1 where getting Pole position is almost equal to winning if everything goes well. cricket is more unpridictable and so more exciting.

Impossible
by karthik on Oct 22, 2007 04:58 PM

F1 is a sport which is not played in the gullies or the parks.Cricket is a religion in India only cause every boy can play it and understands the sport with experience, where as F1 is too technical for a game and not many people know about the aerodyanamics and the engines of the F1 cars. The sport is known to a very little fraction of the population and it will take Years for the game to over take Cricket (Highly impossible).
