build a car first.

People would laugh at us, because we don't know how to build a race motor and even don't know how to repair it.Yes if you have money you can buy anything, but the class is not there ,,YET..

we need to build our own engine and cars and then go for race, will make us all proud.
But i still support his idea.

you big ass what do you think?? tell from where shoule we start? You mean should prepare ourself first in all these areas and then start racing in 2050. If Mallaya could afford to buy Spyker, then we can bring is all professional crew as well. Stop cribing and start think for India....u got to start from somewhere .....people like u are basically pain in the ass....

Congratulations Mr.Mallya and India

This is such an exciting news. I am sure very few people were aware that Mallya has bought the Spyker team. But, by renaming it, he is making sure F1 reaches to many new people who may not be aware of the sport. Atleast we have people like Mallya who try to do their bit in contributing to the development of new sport in our country. Hats off to him.

Well said.

I don't know whether Kingfisher Airlines business would be as successful as his liquor business, but Vijay Mallaya sure knows the subject of branding.

I am not surprised Kingfisher is such a strong brand in the infant Indian aviation world. He has increased the monetary value of Kingfisher brand by an estimated range of a few million dollars already.

The 'Force India' brand seems to be so much stronger already. This man sure knows what he's doing. I'm so, so impressed.

I'm a marketing student, with branding being one of my favorite core areas, and I'm sure every other marketing aspirant would agree with me on this man's brand positioning skills.

He has some of the best managers working for him, surely.

Hi haris,
nice point, just to discuss with u further. businesswise wouldnt kingfisher be a better name for branding and getting publicity for all his businesses?
but probably if i think from your point of view its also correct, because kingfisher would not get so much attention in F1( like other so many teams) and thus force india would be a good name to get attention and than to divert it- meaning people will surely notice in F1, what is force india? than they will try to find more about it and will find about mallya and kng fisher thus getting more attention to his business through a bigger attractive medium and name. m i right, or if u have some thoughts put it forward as i would like to know more ur thoughts are interesting.

Kingfisher would be a better brand name as it would increase the awareness of international travellers in india and with his eyes on international operations it would be a huge boost to have a F1 team named after an airlines

Ridiculous
by Nirupama on Oct 21, 2007 04:11 PM  | Hide replies

Hi, I think it's simply ridiculous to give something such as an F1 car team the 'India' name. 90% of Indians would have nothing to do with this sport and to be overly patriotic over this is simply not right. This a private team assembled by Mr. Mallya and therefore it should not purport to represent India or Indians.
Regards

Nirupama, try to see the positive side of it, there are lots of millionnaire's in India who doesn't want be known as Indians, instead boasting of their American green cards. How much do you know about Vijay Mallya. He has been trying his best to support racing in India from long. Even he have a small scale racing track in whitefield, Bangalore from long. He is a business tycoon from long, he has private planes from long, he have a luxurious life style but the question is how many times did you find his pics in magazines? or getting into controversies? that is something I admire about him. When he uses the word India in his company ain't he showing loyalty to his country? Doesn't it good to have an F1 team known by the name India. What is wrong in that? How many F1 teams are known by country names? They are all known by companies. I do follow F1 from long back and I used to be very proud to see Narain Karthikeyan racing. But currently he is not in the race, its not because he is not a good driver, because people don't want to give him a chance and no one is there to voice for him or recommend him. So when this India name comes to F1 again for whatever reason, it makes me happy, I want everyone to know that an Indian can actually OWN a F1 Team, better let others NOTICE. I am a big fan of Ferrari, but next season I will have two teams as my favourites. I am up for FORCE INDIA.

Fantastic. Will he give a chance for an Indian to drive one of his cars in F1? His post bought out interviews shows he is not very keen on Indian drivers.

It dosen't matter who drives the F1 car's of Force India.Only the name "Force India" and the indian owner's vision matters here.Even Team MRF which runs in APRC dosn't have indian driver's.

Hi,
I think its wonderful to have the name changed to Force India. The Indian tricolor will find its place in the F1 racing also. There will be a lot followers of the sports also to see how Force India is performing. There is nothing wrong in putting the suffix India. To cite and example, please note that www.indya.com is not representing the indians but it is just another Indian dot com venture.
