Indian hockey got chucked deyed by indian cricket with their moneybgs let it go away honourably in the passing evening and bcoma dream to enjoy rather than suffer agaony of present
Indian football has so many sad stories of this sort. I will tell you the recent one.
When India won the Nehru Cup this year the lone goal in final was scored by a Mallu, N.P. Pradeep. He didn't get even a congratulatory note from any ministers or sports authorities in Kerala.
When BCCI's Indian team won 20-20, Sreesanth was poured with money and appreciation. Kerala govt gave 5 lakhs to him. Robin Uthappa, though a player from Karnataka got 3 lakhs from Kerala govt., because his mother is a mallu.
It is not just cricket, other games also need support, recognition and money.
I can understand some decent cash awards. But houses? f u look just in the sporting fraternity, there are current, past and future stars in other sports who are languishing in poverty and struggling to make ends meet!
All sportspersons have to be encouraged! Koneru Humpy won the world title. But She didn't even receive a fraction of the recognition, feleicitation and financial awards that Sania Mirza won from the AP government. WHy? because Tennis is a more glamorous sport than chess? i can understand corporates going for the sport watched by many, but not the government.
First of all lets not compare Cricket and other sports in the country. Every nation has its craze for a sport. In Brazil its Soccer, In US its baseball and basketball. In India its cricket. There is nothing wrong in that. Moreover You cannot the blame crciket or cricketers for the awards thet are getting. They have done it with fair means and hard work and not shown disregard for any other sports. I am sure other sports like Hockey, Snooker, Chess and Soccer will bring laurels to the country. So people stop comparing different sports and lets respect all the sports and sportsman in the country who put India on top.

Chatur agreed lets not compare any any game with any other sports, becoz every game or sport is a different ball game. when any player is playing the game or sport, he/she not only represents him/herself but the country INDIA. When these people are representing the country the govt and the politicians should be fair to acknow that. wheather it is cricket, chess,Hockey,Football or any other game. These people have also done it with fair means and shear heard work. No one reaches the top position or becomes just like that. The Govt and the Politicians just want to cash in the populairty of the cricketers for vote bank.

Hi Chatur, The problem is not what people follow, but how the government treats its sportsperson. Vishwanathan Anand cannot expect huge audience from india to watch chess but has all the right to expect recog. from the govt. the govt should not act on the emotional reaction of the public on recognising people, ie; not recognising just because people are not following the sport. thankully, vishy was recognised by the TN govt. But Pankaj Advani is yet to be recognised by his state govt.

Very true! All sportspersons have to be encouraged! Koneru Humpy won the world title.
