Cricketers started getting money only recently somewhere around 1985 (Indian cricketers), till then the cricketers were also paid peanuts, Gavaskar used to travel using public transport after having a earth shattering debut tour of West Indies. Other sports associations should learn to market their game and then they will also get handsome returns, but most importantly all officials who occupy the sporting bodies should be summarily dismissed and only sportspersons should be allowed to take charge. Thinking of looting BCCI treasury etc are meaningless statements. Also we have to be mindful of the fact that a cricket stadium in India accomodates upwards of 30,000 people, Eden Garden has 100,000 People which the other sports by their nature of play cannot match so the difference in the following of the game and the marketing opportunities will remain limited, and the officials have to be resourceful to generate television revenue.

this govt rates have money only for the crciketers but the coffers are empty for other sports.

Totally agree with u Ankur. He is WORLD NO.1
and cricketers are not even WORLD NO.2 or 3 or 4 or 5.
Wish Vishy gets real recognition. Its due now and he deserves more. He deserves to be carried on an elephant like a Maharja when he returns to India in October last week... He deserves a grand welcome for putting INDIA in NO.1 spot in world in Chess. If T20 cricketers are given such grand welcome in India then he also deserves and as you say he has consistently done it for India .. so he should be recognized for bringing greatest name to our country in Chess.
dis annand is one of the great chess players, however all the money & gifts were showered on the lazy crikket team and chaaarukk kann & booooolllywood jokerz....thats why da annand set up base in spain where he gets full support.
please give more money & gifts to dey great annand....winning the world chess championship is equal to winning 10 crikket world cups.

in russia and america, dey chess playerz are held in the highest esteem and get vazt amounts of funding and sponsorship from dey government & private companies, thats why dey dont have to go abroad to oder countries looking for support.
