Foreign Player Dominance
by Matias Dias on May 29, 2007 05:12 PM  | Hide replies

Football lovers I want to make a point for the Football development in India. As you must be watching NFL, where in foreign players are preferred than our local talent WHY just because to maintain the points table and to be the champions without our own talent. So I would suggest my opinion to all the teams coaches (Specially Goan teams, which is becoming commercial football rather than a SPORT) and the Team managers, Please develope our own Talented players. No doubt if the team loses with our own talent with better game still we will be the winners. I fully agree foreign players are in need but we should not depend on them. 1 or 2 foreign players in the team acceptable but not more than 2.

Hi Matias,

I love football even though I didnt play much after my school days. I understand your concerns. But your points of not having foreign players are not that convincing.
Can you show our country men what it will take to become an international player, both physically and mentally, without having foreign players here? Not to mention how much money it will take for our teams to play in Europe and other Asian countries often. Goa is not the only team in India. Generally we Indians are physically week buddy (weaker even than some sub-saharan countries). The yardstick to say this is our abysmal performance in international sports. Is any team in India as commercial as it shouldn%u2019t be? How commercial are Goan teams? I think there is no enough #s of foreign players to play in India. I accept that the bottom line is to train our local talents though. Unless we bring the free club culture in football we will be stuck to the bureaucratic rigidity prevailing in all other sports. Accept good things from other countries if you want to become like them.

Raj

Well said. They have to headhunt in the coastal regions of Kerala and Tamil Nadu who are known for their skills and physical fitness.

the west plays soccer which is also called the art of football. India plays football which is definitely not splendid to watch. India simply don't have the imagination to play that beautiful game.
