Indian fans dont know nothing about sports
by JK on May 23, 2007 07:54 PM  | Hide replies

The Indian fan is the most illitrate in the world. He/She has no idea of sports and it's intricacies. An ordinary player like Sania Mirza is hyped up so much that she has lost complete focus on how to be a professional tennis player.
To top it all they know nothing about Tennis. The Grand Slam is the pinnacle of this sport. You are evaluated on how you perform in the slams. How many indians know this? Dose Mirza have it all to make a presence in the slams? The answer is big no. She is not fit,has a weak serve and the newness is gone as all the players who play against her know this and easily sort her out. They know that they should play to her backhand which is her weakness and step way in to receive her serve which is another weakness and then make her run around the court testing her fitness. We have to accept that she is FAT. Justine Hardnine and ex player Arantxa sanchez are the same height as Mirza but they dont look fat. They are all muscle. The fans will decry me that i need to shut up and be proud that an Indian has atleast come to this level. But my friends you can support her in the begning but still after 3 years of no show? Agreed that she won a couple of 3rd round matches in some grandslams some 3 years back but what after that? She has been inundated with money way way beyond her wildest dreams. What dose she do with the annual 9 crores in endorsements she earns? Why cant she hire the best tennis mind in the business as coach? Why cant she base herself in florida or europe and train hard to get rid of that fat and tone her muscle? Why cant she work out with state of the art facilities available in the west? Whats wrong in spending a couple of crores for this purpose? The answer is we indians are greedy to save money. We want our talent to do the work and not the fitness regimn that goes along with that.Martina Hingis came off a long layoff and entered the top 10.She was absent for almost 2 years. But this lady fakes injury every 6 months and dishes out pathetic performance after perfrmance.
And always having a Dad in tow instead of professional support staff is not helping either. We as Indians have supported her during the fist year and a half but after all this exposure to the circuit and all the money in he world and all the star status that goes with it she is still not at the top level. She can never be as she has crossed 20 years of age and thats old by tennis standards.Sharapova won Wimbledon at 17.She is going to dish these kind of first round second round performances in the future too and Rediff and the media is going to go ga ga over her 50th 60th 70th ranking etc fooling the public. She will always be in the limelight coz of the ad's and always make money.
But the illitrate indian fans will support her stating the stale reason that she is indias first woman to play tennis in the slams blah blah blah.
Anju Bobby George won a Bonze in long jump in the WORLD CHAMPIONSHP of athetics and no one remembers that. That was the greatest physical peformance an indian sports person has EVER come in the international stage. Rathore won a silver but that was not as physical as Anjus acheivement. People in india are always equating sports with the money they make like Mirza and Tendulkar. pathetic mentality of the indians towards sports has to change. So first step stop suporting this overrated egoistic arrogant mediocore Mirza.

JK, this result does not bring any surprises. Its foolishness to expect her to outperfom others, she is simply not good enough to play at the highest level.

Thats what i am saying Mike. People and the media have to tone down these kind of support and fan following.
For ex talking about her rankings as a big news on one of the premier websites of this country is celebrating mediocrity and passing it to others arond which is very very unhealthy.

sanya first thing reduce ur fat around ur butt, this is good for your movement. it is too early for injuries. secondly, u have lot of unforced errors. conentrate on tennis, dont go for media attraction. i am surprised how u r 53rd rank in the world. dont go for rank. train hard. our media people have no brain, they will lift u up but when u go down the same media will throw u from the top.

Maniacal Adulation

a few few weeks ago on the article about this girl returning to practise had a bunch of canines yapping about her se-called perceived achievements. cant c any of that barking as yet.
as for ms mirza, i think it is high time the media does self-congratulation for successfully ending a promising tennis career with their usual hyper-elevation of the talent mixed with an overdose of publicity.

Well said. But this has become a comman feature of our life. Get into a game and win couple of matches. Sign Ad endorsments and later who cares how you perform when money is flowing in your bank accounts and papparazis all over you.
Its shame Indian sports has been spoiled by these Ad companies. Look at our crickets, they are worse of whole lot. Bunch of waste , don't even have a fighting spirit. Just blame , blame and blame on others. Regional politics etc etc.....

well said all! i've been saying this for ages. this bloody media has done it again. they are killing of a nice talent. this is what happens when fame goes to head. she has been so arrogant that she refuses to change her serve technique in spite of having one of the worst serves in women's tennis.
waiting for kids here to jump on the 'you are jealous' bandwagon.

dissapointing
by jam hangzo on May 23, 2007 03:52 PM  | Hide replies

Clay is not Sania's favourite surface but it was dissapointing as this is the second time she is humbled by a lower rank player in the 1st round. If this continue i don't see her winning another title ever again.Agreed that she is comming back after her injury but one cannot be that bad after playing tennis for 15plus years. Its not easy to forget the game even after months of injury and other players also go through the same but they manage to bounce back after a few matches. Its too early to dismiss her as this is the second tournament but knowing Sania i don't see her climbing the rank or getting better in anyway.A sincere advise to Sania's fans, don't expect her to play better and win more matches as she will dissapoint again. She is not good enough for international tennis, even though she is number 1 in the country.

Another first round defeat for Sanaia
by Ahmad Rais Siddiqi on May 23, 2007 02:54 PM  | Hide replies

I had advised Sania Mirza last week through this forum of Rediffmail.com,only,to take rest before she could really feel 100% fit otherwise she would loose in early rounds only. But Sania, perhaps, didn't see my message and played another tough match inspite of her injury.
I once again remind her to still consider her next round singles matches atleast as singles matches require more power and movements than the doubles.
She should rest for sometime more to avoid further easy defeat.
Since,I have been folloing her as a radio and tv commentator for the last several years,I know her nature of fighting even in the worst of the worse circumstances,so she may still continue to play with this much of her pains.
I wish, she takes some rest and plays with more confidance to win future events.
I am very sure, she would recover soon and put up better performance and improved her rankings soon.
Best of luck Sania.
