In this game, no one can sit and bask in the glory of one odd win, and that too a fluke like someone else said in this forum.
Don't forget, Vijaya Amrithraj also reached Semi Finals of Wimbledon and lost to Ian Kodes (right ? the eventual winner), but that year you know what happened. None of the estabilshed players took part in the tournament.
Of course, Vijay was a great player and a gentleman of the game. The world rememebers him and admires him

Vijay never reached the SF, he lost to Jan Kodes in QF. The year was 1973. Ramanathan Krishnan was the only Indian to have reached a Wimbledon SF. He did it twice.

All you guys ever talk about and remember is who scored what (in tennis/cricket) even if it dates back to the times before you were born. But how many of you know how many states are in your country. The general knowledge of Generation-X is all about sports and movies. Have some sense people.

Oh, is it, i have heard about him, but not see him play. Whats his achievement? Why he is great, how he comes into the rank of celebrity?

Chang was one of those tennis stars the viewers automatically took a liking to... I've seen him play tennis, and I've never seen a sportsman with a larger heart for the game...
He was also one of the fastest runners among tennis players
Chang was trly a sign of determination hard work minus the talent, after so many years it may been in 90's that i heard about him still remember his exploits in french and us open great character no doubt

He doesn't need your affidavit of support. You better work on getting a good conduct certificate for yourself before you can go on and give character evaluation for others.

Are you guys playin scrabble or something???!!!Gees..comment on something that is relevant!!mistakes do happen..its the message tat needs to be pristine!!
michael chang is undoubtedly one of the few tennis players who is remembered for the instincts and sportsman spirit...unfortunately,inspite of all his accomplishments and dedication he has shown for the game, even the tennis fans and media has havent shown that respect and courtesy which this former 2 seeded player desereves..... i will really appreciate if we all guys just give all the respect to him which we give to other players like pete sampras, bjorn borg etc cause knowing his linitations he have climbed all the ladders of success that other players can just imagine off..... hats off to these hall of famer!!!!!!!!

what do you mean we didn't give respect. If you want you can fall at his feet, but he has received all the respect that he deserved.

Gritty .. thats a one word summary of Chang. He wasn't as talented as some of the others in the field but his accomplishments exceeds most of them not named Agassi or Sampras.

You said it right. He was NOT talented. Just a fluke. btw, can you name some/any famous tennis players who did not show determination on court ? Tennis is a game for the tough. Those who did not have determination, did not survive.
About Ramesh Krishnan, one famous player commented "This guy is so slow that I almost slept in the court". But then, who knows R K ?

"Harish: He was NOT talented. Just a fluke" - duh, are you kidding? Maybe he was not as talented as Stefan Edberg who he beat in the French open final, but he was amazing in many shots. And his court speed was a joy to watch, he could get to some impossible balls. But the best part was the intelligence he used to play the game it was a joy to watch him apply his mind in the placement and type of shots and also take try to break his opponent mentally - the Lendl match which he played with cramps was one example. And his humor was subtle.
