A Ray of hope?

Congratulations to Dempo from a die hard East Bengal fan! They certainly have been the team to beat for the last two years.
Lets hope this new found resurgence of the Goanese football ushers in a new era in Indian sports.
Its time we Indians started playing some 'real' sports - something played by more than 10 countries.

Dempo Sports Club could utilise the pre-season to widen their fan base !

Prominent and long standing football giants like Man U, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern, Liverpool, Corinthians, River Plate, Ajax Amsterdam and such mighty teams with deep and rich histories are known for their formidable fan base world wide.

In recent years Dempo Sports Club has experienced a fantastic revival under their astute coach Mr. Armando Colaco. The former Dempo player in his very first year at the helm saw the team getting promotion to the NFL Senior Division. From then on the story has been of Dempo resurgence all the way. They have been champions of NFL II, made two appearances in the Fed Cup finals, laid their hands on the tough Goa Professional League Trophy, won the prestigious Durand Cup in Delhi and have been crowned winners of the NFL once already and are still in the running yet again. That is indeed extraordinary.

The pre-season is a time to widen the fan base in Goa. For years bulk of the Dempo players have been hailing from villages and towns in South and Central Goa. The fan base between the Mandavi and Zuari and further South is OK. In the near future the team could think of reviving and widening the fan base in North Goa as well. Each year the team could play a couple of friendlies on player-friendly turfs in various Talukas in North Goa sometime in June-July-August, the normal pre-season preparatory period.

Places like Valpoi, Sanquelim, Bicholim, Mayem, Aldona, Assnoda, Thivim, Sircaim, Siolim, Arambol, Morjim, Calangute, Arpora, Parra, Candolim, Nerul, Pilerne, Britona and Porvorim do contain a fair sprinkling of Dempo fans, supporters and former players. Why not give the old timers some moments to cherish and celebrate by playing a few friendlies closer home. During the actual season many more would turn up to support the team at Duler and Fatorda.

Football played by Dempo Sports Club is indeed a healthy entertainment for both mind and body.

Dr. Cajetan Coelho

hi Caje

my name is Ralph, based in New Zealand. i am a financial auditor for Deloitte & Touche and provisional Chartered Accountant. An ardent Dempo SC fan from my childhood, and still support Dempo vividly. i have slammed Arunava Chowdhuri who is biased towards the bengali teams in his website: www.indianfootball.com
i am pushing my v.good friend and neighbour at Fatorda, Dr Lloyd Simoes, who is the current physio of Salgaocar SC to spread the word to influential authorities that we need a website to promote goan soccer over the bengalis. the goan football afficiandos in NZ are hungry for goan soccer news and action. i support your views and lets support Goan from wherever we are.
i cant wait for DEMPO SC to regain the NFL, and no better way to do it than on our home soil in Goa.

by the way today i have officially become a New Zealand citizen, but always a PROUD GOAN!!
