Now, you need to say China as the stronger team. After all, they are Asiad Silver medalist. They beat India in ASIAD.

Need new Coach
by Dev on May 07, 2007 11:21 AM

Team India diplayed a spirited Hockey against sleeping giant China. But i would like to mention that Our Goal keeper should be replaced by Chetri.Baljit is running behind all balls and out of position most of the times(he was out of position when the goal was conceded against Australia) make our team win.In our first match against Australia he had not fielded Reghunath in the team and there were nobody to convert penalty corner.
The match against china they scored their first goal from penalty corner was a carbon copy of the golden goal they scored against Pakistan in Asiad semi finals. The coach should see atleast the video of opponents previous matches to formulate counter strategies against the opponent teams. Our Coach Need strategies to win tournaments.

India vs China - Hockey
by pramod Ekka on May 07, 2007 10:50 AM

India's attack is very very poor. Its mediocre. Defence needs improvement
Midfield is good enough

India still doesn't show as a fighting unit

Congrats India for atleast winning something. I m great fan of India hockey. Yesturday's win was great relief for me too. I still believe India can succeed in Hockey. India's have potential but lack in discipline. Now i m looking out for one more win from you. Go & beat Argentina.

Finally a win
by Rackat Kanakam on May 07, 2007 10:39 AM

A win is a win. Will be a booster to the team and encourage them to do better. Still, a long way to go when it comes to penalty corner conversion and passing of the ball. Chinese have improved a lot and were seen trying strategies in the field, which is missing in our team. Hope the coach spends more time in analysing how we played and how we can improve the game. The next one against Argentina is a big game and they are looking the strongest in the group. Good luck !

Indian defence is atrociously bad
by Kishore on May 07, 2007 09:45 AM  | Hide replies

Frankly speaking Chinese deserved atleast a draw especially for the innovative play they put during each penalty corner were brillant.
On the other Hand , Indian Defense was unbelievably bad , I have seen school teams defend better than that.
Every time the Chinese attacked ,you can anticipate a foul and the next ball to the inner ring will more or less result in a penalty corner .
Midfield and attacker was better is the first half and attacker were Ok in the second half with Midfielder running like headless chickens .
I think the coach whoever he is should be sacked as the preparation towards this game is bad and completely unprofessional .
Man to Man we should have beaten them easily ,but for a hopeless coach whose game plan was more dependent on hope rather than purpose

I agree with you kishore. although we should give JC a chance. we dont have man to man marking for Forwards. thats a must for a modern hockey game.

pls dont criticise JC do u know the stock he is made of? he was one of the best medios the country has ever produced to call him useless is uncalled for.every country today is well prepared and play an attacking brand of hockey,u cant expect the indian team to play hockey like harlem globetrotters, man to man marking is not required when our forwards combine in full flow this will spreadeagle any tight defensive pattern.the truth is we have a forwardline that is highly inadequate.

He is a new coach, which should come with new enthusaism, vigour in the Indian team .
This should be the minimum which anyone who cares about Indian Hockey expects .
I will no longer complain,if they learn from their mistakes yesterday and work on it for the future matches .
If they play like they did yesterday is commendable , then God save India when they play super professional european teams .
