Discipline in hockey
by sushil lakra on Mar 15, 2007 01:34 PM

I think this action will be a milestone for improvement of Indian hockey in discipline specially for misbehaving of FIH accredited umpire Mr Satinder Sharma.Coaches need to teach to respect umpires at the early stage of beginning hockey.

BAN THE MANAGEMENT NOT PLAYERS
by navdeep bajwa on Mar 15, 2007 10:24 AM  | Hide replies

PLEASE STOP ATROCITIES ON PUNJABI PLAYERS,,,PUNJABI PLAYERS HAVE BEEN THE BACK BONE OF INDIAN HOCKEY AND WILL BE..

HOCKEY IS A GAME WHERE A FEELING TO WIN FLOWS IN YOUR BLOOD WHICH SOMETIMES OVERPOWER EMOTION OF PLAYERS THAT SUCH INCIDENTS HAPPEN..BUT WHY SUCH THINGS HAPPEN,,NOBODY IS INQUIRING OF MR SHARMA DECISION HERE,,

EVERYONE IS TALKING OF DECIPLINE OF PLAYERS,,,,COME ON THEY ARE NOT KIDS THEY KNOW WELL THE RULES OF GAME,,

BOTTOMLINE IS MANAGMENT DONT WANT RIGHT PLAYERS TO COME IN TEAM THEY ONLY WANT DOWNFALL OF THE GAME,,THEY PICK SUCH PLAYERS TO REPRESENT INDIA WHO COME IN ARMPITS OF FOREIGN PLAYERS..

CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW A GUY WHO IS MEARLY 5'5" CAN DODGE A OPPONENT PLAYER WHO IS ALMOST 6' OR MORE THAN THAT...AND EVEN MORE PHYSICALLY STRONGER THAN OUR SELECTED INDIAN PLAYERS..

HOCKEY FLOWS IN VEINS OF PUNJABIS AND BEING GROWN UP WITH MILK AND BUTTER FROM CHILDHOOD THEY ARE PILLARS OF STRENGTH.

THEY CANT BE LIKE INDIAN CRICKET TEAM PLAYERS WHO HEARD REMARKS FROM AUSSIES AND DID NOTHING..REMEMBER THE 2001 AUSSI TOUR WHEN SLATER AND MAC GRATH SLAM DRAVID AND GANGULY AND THEY STOOD LIKE KIDS LISTENING TO THEM,,,

SO I THINK PLAYERS DID RIGHT WHAT THEY THOUGHT AT THAT MOMENT AND CUTTING THEIR SHARE OF PRIZE IS ANOTHER SHAMEFUL ACT...

Hi Navdeep,

Please stop tring to pull up the regional thing here. The punishment were handed over not because they were some XXXX/YYYY/ZZZZ state players. The punishment were handed over for the indisciplinary(manhadling of refree).
This punishment would be handed over to any other player who had comminted such a thing.

First and foremost thing for any sports person is discipline. Without it he wont stand anywhere no matter how big a player is.

Even if the refree has made a mistake in his descision making the players are to go by the refrees descision(May be make a formal complaint to the IHF). If the banned players/team has done this then the outcome would have been different(refree banned from officiating or some XXXX or YYYY descision).

The players when they are on the feild have to remember at all time that they are being watched by 1000/millions fans from stadium/thru covereage and that such incidents will not set up good example for the youth/future players.

About cutting the prize money and financial sines imposed, may be you should see how the leagues in other foreign countries work. The punishments there are the same. Only by such punishments will the teams/players/management staff will understand of their responsibilities and act wisely in future.

For your information, recently one such incident in the UEFA cup(football) let to disqualification of the team at fault(Feynerood) and its opposition was given a bye to the next round. This is the way to go man.

I agree these sort of punishments are harsh, but it will only make the players strong with their attitude. They will come back better players.

Raghu

Raghu

The thing is not decipline here ,, it is axing of fine players from team..when we need them most...

can you tell me why viren rasquniha, one of finest halfback of Indian team is out,,,is he out by indiscipline?he is out by poloitics man

Reagrding the prize cut of players can you tell me what an avearge income is for a Hockey Player who represents India..Might be you dont know,,ok i tell you here..they dont have any big deapartments and big corporates and big ads to sponsor..what they earn is from these tournaments ,,if one team wins a national tournament ,the winning team memeber gets around anything between Rs 5000-7000..and we all know how many tournaments are run over in our country...

Dont try to compare with UEFA,,their average player earn more than top sports person of india...

Cutting players share is bad man,,they played for almost 2 months for the title and prize and what they got at end ...... BAN

PUNJAB HAVE BEEN FORERUNNER IN HOCKEY AND WILL BE OK,,,

REMEMBER THAT MATCH INDIA WIN WITH BIGGEST MARGIN OVER PAKISTAN ON HOLLAND IN 2002 CHAMPIONS TROPHY WHEN INDIA WON BY 7-4 (RECORD)
AND THE GOAL SCORERS WERE

3 GOALS BY GAGANAJIT SINGH
2 JUGRAG SINGH
1 DEEPAK THAKUR
1 PRABHJOT SINGH

ALL PUNJABIS IN THAT SCORELINE
THIS DEFINES ALL RAGHU...

PUNJAB HAVE DOMINATED INDIAN HOCKEY AND WILL DO SO IN FUTURE.....

BAN COULD HAVE BEEN FOR 1 - 2 MONTHS SO THAT PLAYERS WOULD HAVE BEEN CAUTIONED ABOUT SELVES...

ANYHOW TAKE CARE

NAVDEEP

Probably the right thing to do !!
by Ankur Agarwal on Mar 15, 2007 06:40 AM

Federation has done the right thing by taking this action which will be a lesson for the future. However this incident also clearly suggests the need of some soft skill trainings for our players. Players have to be taught to control their emotions and anger as such punitive actions only results in loosing some potentially good players affecting Indian hockey at the end. Looking at the current state of Indian hockey, probably this is the last way the team would want to loose its good players.

Right action
by sunilkumar mishra on Mar 15, 2007 02:15 AM

The punitive action taken fast against the three erring players deserves praise as there is no place for unruly behaviour anywhere in the civil world and more so in sports which is supposed to teach our players sportsmanship and not intolerance. When Orissa steelers under the tutelage of Dilleep was so gentle, the Shere team was expected to be more gamely and magnanimous particularly when u r playing on ur home soil.

Good for Indian Hocky!!!

I happend to see the final and was amazed to see the behaviour of Sher-e-Jalandhar players. They misbehaved with the umpire. There is a way to protest against a decision. You need to give respect to the umpire and their decision. You can't go and fight with the umpire. Such strict measures will be a lesson for other players who often indulge in such behavior.
