RE:Sania

no indian can compete in any physical sports we r jus not made for thee things well sania this is the limit for her !!
India just does not seem to have it. We are sliding even further in all sports. Having 1/6 of the world population means nothing, if we have no infrastructure, organisation or professionalism (clueless even to select a cricket coach). We are good in chess but in physical sports, we are nowhere.
We always get carried away. Sania has had her success but quite limited, at the best of times. Others especially from Eastern Europe have better physique and athleticism, that we have limited scope.
We are now feeling the heat in cricket from those we considered minnows earlier. India seems to be easy meat for them now. Soon the oldies will lose the grip and as Nixon said you will not have them anymore to kick around.
We are nowhere in Badminton and Table Tennis. In hockey, we cannot come back to anything worthy of note. We are about the bottom in soccer.
The other problem is we raise our sports people to stratosphere the moment there is some success. All sorts of pressure builds up and they are treated like celebreties.
Except in chess, we are clueless. We just do not have it. We still think of the great PT Usha, but even she could not win an Olympic medal. Such is the true story.
Coming back to Sania, it would be too much to expect her to win any majors, when teen agers are coming by the dozen everywhere with such potential.

Though Kournikova did not win a single tournament she was much much a better player than Sania Mirza. Anna was spoiled by her beauty.

it's an insult to anna to be compared against mediocre sania. She doesn't have wht it takes to look like Kournikova
Get real guys. This chap is 24 and he is not going to get into the top 200 in his career. We are still depending on Paes to get us through Uzbekistan and Kazhakhstan. Let us be practical and understand that Tennis does not remain the game it was during the time of Krishnan, Vijay et al. Today it requires tremendous strength and stamina, not to mention supreme atheleticism to win consistently at the top level. Indians, in our present state of sports awareness and infrastructure, including sports medicine and training facilities will never get anywhere till there is a sea change in our entire approach to sports. Even if all this is possible the inherent skill sets also has to be present and Amritraj simply lacks, of course, in comparison with his international contemporaries; at the Indian level he may keep winning but he will get no where any where else. I will be surprised if he gets a direct entry to any of the majors before he retires. I am not bad mouthing him here, only looking at reality.
I wish Sania had a dream of winning a grandslam(or any tournament) rather than just participating in it. She became first round wonder, second round NOWHERE and thats not ideal for a sportsperson. She needs to work a lot in her fitness and mental strength.
