Well to come to think of it sumone has correctly stated we dont have a sports culture. Its the mentality which has caused this. Cricket has grown up because its been there since ages, you try to bring anything new, it doesnt work. Sports is still a loser's job here!

You are not correct dear!First India was a better Hockey playing nation than Cricket earlier.We were considered as Bangladesh in Cricketing world till 1975. Some Football tournaments being played in india Like Durand cup are oldest in the World! And also dont blame parents!Now adays Parents take their kids to Cricket academies and playgrounds themselves and are so much helping! Simple reason is that we are too much absorbed in a waste game like Cricket..which has neither given us any sports identity in the world nor it is going to make us! Keep this BCCI looting the country.
We have to develop the culture from school level itself. Need regular competition in district level and state level, junior and senior level. Only formality trophies like Santhosh Trophy cann't save Indian foot ball..
We have to give more appreciation to foot ball and its players, as for cricket we do. Develop a culture from school level is more important.
India can produce many many world class footballers.. if we really want to do..
First of all our Superiors have to think we need foot ball?? Or just do formalities.. and say my fooot....

well said...in my whole life i have never seen an inter school football match, at local level.we need to change our approach towards sports !!

Mr.Pawar can kill you if you suggest him like this!Where is money in Football?? These guys are not for improving sports culture in india but for Money.JAHAN Ruppiyah chamaka..makhkhi ki tarah aa ker baith jayenge. I doubt he has himself played any sports in life?

Dear Sunit- 1.Year 1956-Melborn olympics--Indian football team reached in semi final.Lost to Yugoslavia. 2.Year 1950-Indian football team qualified for the World CUP football.However due to the fact that all members didnot have boots to wear which was mandatory as per FIFA,they were not allowed to play football. Our sports authority should shame on this!

look at our olympic history...we have achieved nothing compared to some of the smaller nations. We still have Kalmadi as the head..and nobody is there to ask his credibility !! Kick the politicians out and provide proper money and funding for each project.I happen to see the tv coverage of trivandrum sports school..the whole place was like haunted house...and the students had to strike and fast for thei proper food supplies!! and we have a huge no of people working for the sports ministry...who do not have to show any results to get their pay !!

Dont blame Kalmadi and politicians!Larger blame should be on ourselves! If any thrid rate cricket star has extra marital affair everyone starts looking for more news!Cricket was also a game untill 1975 when things started changing! Remember Azhar and Shastri were given jobs in banks.They also used to play on behalf of their banks,airlines.Do you think even smallest cricket star today needs bank job? I must tell you the tale of one small school in state of Jharkhand..St.Igantius school,Gumla.This school has been the national Hockey and Football champion for last 15 years at school level.But when Olympic and Asiad teams are selected they are neglected to adjust few punjabi players who pay lakhs just to get entry and visit some foreign country.Some even have been reported went underground in that country.Moreover..officials adjust more and more staff than playing squad for free trips! NOBODY reacts...I ask if Pawar dares such thing in cricket...you guys would topple the govt in coming elections!! Why so much care about cricket??

We'll only develop football, only if our cricketers make it a point to loose all their games and hope that the country looses it's interest in cricket and concentrate on football...
CMon Sehwag, Dravid and company....Do your part in promoting Indian Football...
