David Beckham made ManU the sensation they are in Asia today almost singlehandedly....with Giggs and Nistelrooy contributing to good effect these days it's the Ronaldo phenomenon it's being said that he is a very ordinary player and that he was in demand only within the English setup. Have the people forgotten his many sterling European performances--like the one against Real Madrid in the 2003 Champions' League Quarter Final Old Trafford second leg when ManU were 0-3 dowm before half time(courtesy a ronaldo hat-trick) and staring down a 1-6 scoreline(Raul had put them to the sword at the first leg scoring 2 for a 3-1 win ) Beckham was not even in the starting 11 due to a rift with Sir Alex he was subbed in for the second half owing to the desperation of the situation he led one of the greatest contemporary fightbacks scoring 2 and creating 2 more for a fabulous 4-3 win ManU lost 5-6 on aggregate but could hold their heads high for producing such a performance against arguably the best team of Europe at that time(Real were champions in 1998,2000 and 2002) also remember his efforts during ManU's treble winning season of '99 Real Madrid thought of him as a galactico for that was the reason why he was inducted into the team in 2003 perhaps courtesy that quarterfinal performance so where does it appear that he was in demand only within England???remember also his free-kick against Greece and the penalty against Argentina in the World Cups maybe he was not in

I agree Mr Lee, the English have a habit of projecting ordinary players into excellent and excelent ones into Best footballer of the world. Beckham is a prime example of that. To be honest, English football like any other English sport is mediocre. The so called "great" EPL show is run by foreign players.

Lee,
I disagree! Im not going to say Beckham is the best player in the world but he is certainly far better than a "very ordinary footballer".

His performance in the last few games for Real Madrid was fantastic and has given Real their 1st honest chance to win the Spanish league in the last few years.

Also yesterday against Brazil, he was certainly the best english player on the field. He may not be a great entertainer like Zidane or Kaka but he has certainly earnt his position in the Real team or English team

Exactly Mr Lee.Infront of playmakers like Zidane,Figo,Kaka he is nothing. If free kicks are the most impotant thing in football then Juniho would have been permananet member in Brazil team.Definitly he is an ordinary player with exellent deadball skills.Thats all.
