Mandela's birthday match ends in 3 - 3 draw
by cajetan coelho on Jul 22, 2007 07:50 PM

"This match is more than just a game -- it symbolises the power of football to bring people together from all over the world, regardless of the language they speak or the colour of their skin," - Mandela.

FIFA, UEFA and such powerful sports organizations are making steady progress in conscientizing and sensitizing people on issues like racism and apartheid.

We need to play and pray for the eradication of racism in our society. May the giver of life bless and reward our efforts.

No honour

This is no honour at all. FIFA is still practicing apartheid. FIFA World Cup 2006 should have gone to Africa if FIFA really love and respect Nelson Mandela. But they (Franz Beckenabuer) choose to love Germany than Africa. There is no chance equality or inclusiveness will be there in FIFA too. So, this is not at all honor for Mandela. It is more of a cover up or politics or double standard of a FIFA.

Since there is slim hope that Mandela might not live to see the 2010 WC in Africa, FIFA is only doing a face saving match, nothing more than that.

So, there is no honor at all for Mandela.
