The reason why she climbed to 38 even after a poor performance in Wimbledon is that in last year's wimbledon, she lost in the first round. All the tournaments in the last one year are considered in WTA rankings.
This means nothing because Sania loses in the second round of any tournament. Even if Sania plays a 200th rank player in the second round Sania will lose. Sania has the stamina only to go to the second round. That is all. Sania does not even have to show up for the second round match because she has lost the match before it is even played. Sania has a serious fitness problem which she refuses to correct. Sania used to beat a player like Bartoli with such ease couple of years back. But Bartoli has raised her game level several notches, which Sania has not.
Sania is the 1st girl from the world who continuously lose in 1st or 2nd rd and still maintain her ranking within 50 every year.I dont know how the ranking works. Can anyone tell me how the ranking works.

easy there are only about 40 players, Sania beats the one ranked 39 in the first round so she retains her 38th position, had she lost in the 1st round she would have been ranked 40, do you see?

Mr Bakistani, just use ur common sense here, tommorrow if sania beats world no 2 then would she be world no 1? just think it over. These rankings depends of no of wins not aginst whom ur winning.

Dude, It is simple math. the number of players who would have qualified for the second round is 64 and those who made it to the third round is 32.. Since she seems to get into at least the second round every grand slam, her rankings hover between 32 and 64.

Of course, whatever I said is oversimplified, but my point is that it is not very surprising that she has this rank.
