By Rahul August Indians have a million basic problems to solve before being able to afford such uselessly luxurious passtimes as automobile racing. Let's construct a decent drainage system in every city to allow for "Grand Prix" exit of our wastes, before we follow cars racing around on tracks.

1) Its high time we acknowledge the F1 fever and by entension its huge following in India.
2) Not everyone can tour the world and satisfy their desire to cheer their F1 team live. Bringing it to India (hopefully bombay) wud make loads of dreams come true
Though I really want Formula1 to come to India , but lets hope all these dreams doesnt come crashing down like the one in Hydrabad , where the change of power in government resulted in withdrawings the idea to host a Formula1 race in India .
India has a very strong fan base of Formula1 and i really think that bringing Formula1 to this part of the sub continent will do good for the future and development of this sport in the country , as india is a country which is dominated by only one sport - CRICKET .
So I really think that having a Formula1 race in India wont be such a bad idea after all .
Let us look at the investment required and the benefits that comes out of having an F1 race in India.
1. A huge area of land to be set aside for the race track. This in our country where allocating area for industries (Singur) itself is a huge problem. And the land wll most probably be agricultural land snatched away from farmers.
2. A world class airport which is near the race track has to be built. Since huge land is not available in the cities, an airport has to be built near wherever the race track is planned.
3. World class 5 star hotels to be built for the teams near the race track.
4. How much employment is this going to generate ? We have to maintain the place for the whole year just for a week's show. 5. When farmers are committing suicide in India, is it justified to take away their land and allot it to F1 which is patronised by less than 0.1% of the Indian population? Will the farmers be pleased to let go of their land for a week of pleasure for the elite population?
After looking at all these factors, I don't think we need an F1 track in India.
lets hope for the best. there will be many hurdles especially getting nods from corrupt and clueless governemnt authorities.chandrababu naidu tried his best.lets hope better for mallaya. Delhi doesnt sound as best option. my vote would be for goa , pune (being the automobile manufacturing hub of india) , mumbai or bangalore though delhi probably has the biggest fan base
Finally, i thought i'd have to become a millionaire to get Formula One to India. Thank God, somebody else relieved me of that pressure.. Hope we get an F1 circuit as early as 2009. But surely, i'd love an ocean circuit rather than a circuit in Delhi. Places like Bombay, Chennai, Visakhapatnam (My Favourite) are ideal options.. Prolly we can make some of the best circuit in the F1 year :)
