Cant these bandh organizers realize that this is only causing inconvinience to Kannads and Karnatak. There is a legal system in India. its time that these people learnt how to use it. There is a bunch of uneducated fools running this state.

This is all politics aimed at making life worse for the other fellow citizens. The cause of this is the ego and self centred behaviour.

I myself have been in Karnataka for over 3 yrs and its becoming worse in terms of safety every year. Riots, rapes, fights, murders and what NOT !!

Wonder what the Karnataka Govt is doing with all the taxes and stuff paid by the citizens in Karnataka.

There was a time when Bangalore was the retired person's paradise, then it became one of the few IT hubs but NOW, its between no where - a dead man's land due to all this bull**** happening for personal gain !

These kind of issue's are politically motivated and people involved in decision making are just enjoying their win by making public fight on streets as at the end of day the Public is made scape goat for whatever decision is taken.... by fighting for what is a natural resource in names of states and parties is making the scene worse on the international scene for India and why is this not understood by the Central Govt. they should come out with decision's in such a way that everybody should feel that they have got the best piece of cake...

Its not about bandh
by Sreedhara N S on Feb 11, 2007 06:40 PM

u see it is high time people leave evaluating the massess protesting and deciding its wrong. Its true that the karnataka team has not fought the case putting in their full effort which has now resulted in people protesting, which is not wrong as the result they feel is unjustified. The result is based on only the surface water availability of the basin neglecting the ground water availability which constitutes major part of indian irrigation system. this ground water is largely available to TN. State could have put efforts in bringing out these facts before the tribunal which they have failed. but people are not wrong in protesting, just remember these are the protests that are bringing the high profile guilty punished in india and i see it as the only hope india has if there is any chance we see india as a developed country. remember the Rajeev Goswami whose act has inspired the nation to what it has deveoped into today (it is not easily visible). We the educated only sits in caffes, AC rooms just discussing what is wright and wrong and never go to vote the person our choice to power (just tell me how many of our working people go to vote). Instead of deciding people are wrong because they are protesting, u join the protest or u go and VOTE, VOTE and VOTE

Are you Karnataka people who observe bandh getting water from the bandh ? Is any one benefited from the strike and bandh ? In the name of democracy, few mad people create problems for majority of population. It is high time, the judiciary should step in seriously and stop this nonsense. Under democracy, you have to sit and negotiate, not deny the basic rights of the majority of population. Where were these people for the last 19 years when the Kavery dispute was being fought and why they did not fight properly before the tribunal ?

No government has given decision in this respect in the last 19 years. Whatever the decision was given earlier was interim. This government has given this decision to appese the government of Tamilnadu and to stay in power in Centre. When the water is originated from Karnataka and is insufficient for them itself, how can you people expect it from Karnatka. It is not that Karnataka was not giving the water to Tamilnadu. The thing is that Tamilnadu was not fully satisfied the water given by Karnataka and ultimately they might have threatened the Centre either "you do or die", Cauvery is only our goal. 6p5kc

Nayak,
It has never been like that. Please understand the sitution and history first.
The tribunal is formed only after the two governments agreed for it in 90s. It was not formed after Manmohan Singh became the PM.
And moreover it was formed at a time when JD to which Deve Gowda belongs was ruling the nation.
Added to this DeveGowda was the PM in late 90s during which the tribunal ws having its hearings.
If at all the judgement has been lopsided, it can be lopsided to KTK only.
There is no logic attached to what you say.
How can you just like that say that a verdict of a tribunal which consisted on mutually agreed legal and scientific experts carefully drafted for 17 years is one sided.
No one can satisfy the thirst of Kannada people except the morses of Thanjavur farmers.
If you want that one to happen, don't indirectly kill them through delaying tactics of a verdict. Straight away go, kill them and eat the fresh meat. Let us see whether you thirst settles down then.

Karnataka people are not having excess water to provide it to Tamilnadu. The farmers are suffering without water. In Bangalore and other parts of Karnataka, you can observer frequent disruption of electricity and water. On the top of this, unjustified judgement by the Tribunal to appease the govenment of Tamilnadu to stay in power. When the Central Government is playing the lives of Karnakata farmers and people, what is wrong in peaceful strike ?

Hi NayakG,

Do you have any evidence that this tribunal is or was favouring TN? If so please provide. This will help neutral users like me to understand your view.

Btw,
Do you accept Mahajan report, which support keeping belgaum with KA and recommand kasargod [Currently in kerala] to be with KA? I think you would. Then MH and KL can say that report has been politically motivated to favour or appease KA. Can we infer so?

My Opinion: This tribunal is of more than 16 years old. There were times opposition parties ruled TN. Do you think, If the verdict had come during that time it would have been otherway?
Moreover, the amount of water allocated to TN from KA is 192 tmc, which is more or less same as interim verdict[205 tmc]. I do not know which party ruled TN then.

So Please do not discredit the tribunal itself. I am not saying what ever tribunal said was correct. If you and KA govt believe that it is wrong, then you have to take the Leagal route by taking the tribunal head on with facts. But whatever be the outcome after the final review, all concerned partes should accept.
This is what Mr.Chacko also saying.

Also I think, by delegating the responsibility to people [who do not have expertise in this subject] will lead to mob rule and not rule of law.

Thanks.

Guys why this commotion in our own country what is Karnataka, Tamilnadu, why are we so divided arent we one nation why cant we all live as one Indian family, fight over water, language, religion, caste, movie stars etc its you name it we have it, dont the educated feel its a bit silly and ignorant hey does any one talk of the divided Kashmir between two countries why dont we fight for that cause rather then internal stupid politically motivated issues. I just wish the whole India has very good monsoons so that farmers in India have a good crop, agriculture is a main economy which is still to be tapped to its maximum government should start to make the farmer rich by subsidising elcectricity, fuel and even giving out finiancial support to the ones in need lets think in how we can do things right not fight over issues

To all those great souls here who feels that Verdict has been Unjustice to TN and that Karnataka is behaving funny in releasing water and that TN PPl depends on Kaveri Water for millieniums ( as if KN ppl are not ).....

The falg links gives facts and figures (i hope this answers most of the great souls here) in plain simple English

http://www.rediff.com/news/2007/feb/06guest.htm

Every great soul in this forum were worried abt TNs share, but they forgot/failed to understand/analyze the root cause of deplinishing Source of water. Dont be so mean, inhumane dears...I bet, had TN been in the Sourcing End....other states would not have been getting water at all. Can anyone here justify why shud the Kerala's share of 30 TMC be left to TN over and above the 192 TMC from KNs Share?

We indians are so much diversified, but never never united in any inter-state related issues...be it with politicians, confused/misled ppl at india or ppl outside. The so called biased media is another sin, not covering the issue in its right sense. When Central Govt planned to sell one of the PSU's share at TN...the media coverage was to at its best...but see whats happening with Kaveri's verdict.

Hello Mr. shankar.
Please understand the problem before writting anything. Not the full 410 tmc ft goes to TN. Kerala and Pondy have their shares. And not all the 410 tmc water are released from karnataka. only 215(192 for TN) will be released by karnataka from bilingundlu. Even till this point water flows into cauvery also through mountaineous regions bordering TN and Kerala.
Infact this judgement is heavily in favor of KTK. But TamilNadu has not objected to it because KTK is in the upper basin. Only a few media had reported the verdict wrongly.
Why dont atleast one kannadiga (except the advocates who argued and Shankaramurthy) have some sense and analyze the verdict to find the truth. There can be no other formula which is fairer to KTK.
We know that it is not the judgement which makes you people to talk like the above. You want an occassion to abuse and attack others

cauvery does not belong to karnataka alone just because it originates from there.tamilnadu farmers are depending on cauvery water for the past millenium, if u have read history. let us take everybody into cosideration and arrive at a conclusion amicabily. any solution which makes only one party happy is not a neutral solution. this is the reason why they have set up a tribunal and given the verdict. Now, even though both the parties are not happy, let us respect the verdict

Mr. Shankar,
If at all some city originates and grows in the shore of some river or lake is not by default entitled to take water from it.
Water is consumed based on historical evidences of its usaged for a particular geographical area. This applies to KTK also.
Even inside TN, even though cauvery flows through many districts before reaching Thanjavur, no other district takes water from it as it will lead to drought in Thanjavur.
Please understand the situation fully and write. Dont just be emotional
