Was that a penalty? There is reason to doubt and the

benfit of doubt goes to the defending team. If the penalty had not been given, the ball was in Drogbas control in a promising situation. He may have scored 50-50 odds. Malouda didnt dive, he jumped either to get out of the way or because he was commited. Finnan did shrug off Malouda as he was descending, it looked like he wrestled him down, but it wasnt a fowl. Neither was Malouda anywhere near the ball, so logic didnt apply in the decision. I dont think Malouda even had the slighest inkling there was a penalty. Drogba didnt think it was a penalty. He continued playing. So you cant blame Chelsea for diving in this incident. But the refree made abig error. We are not sure if Chelsea wouldnt have managed a goal without the refree's help. The only way to eliminate or reduce such errors is to allow technology. If a decision is hotly disputed, check the replay and give the fair decision. That way you dont reduce the refree's control and you can correct human errors which is always likely in any match.

Simple man,

Remember 2005-06 when Drogba was booed by his own Chelsea fans for diving! While I totally agree that he had an amazing last season, he plays his own part in the great Stamford Bridge Tamasha! Forget about last season or any other thing, anyone who saw the 'Malouda trick' has to admit that it was a awfully judged penalty!

All these claims r baseless where all these ppl were when chelsea was on receiving side of bad decision nd among the killer opponents (physically).I believe chelsea has the most obedient nd pure players, they ve shown this in the past also.Good luck chelsea play ur natural game nd show them the door!

Be ready to eat your words. The special one is on his way back to Porto! You should play in carling cup etc. Forget about EPL. As far as ECL is concerned, never mind!

Unfortunate Reds
by John McClane on Aug 20, 2007 11:23 AM  | Hide replies

The reds were really unfortunate to lose on much deserved 3 points. Though is true that the game became over-physical at times, 8 yellow cards is too much.
I know there is no point in criticizing referee's decisions but for a match between 2 of the four world class title contenders, the referee has to deliver an equally top class performance.
Anyways, I am happy to see Torres off the mark. He does look like the link between Liverpool the EPL title.
As for Malouda, he too fits well in Chelsea bandwagon. Drogba has a competitor now..... for oscars! Mourinho must be a happy man!

2nd last paragraph - Gerrard, who was reverted BACK.... The last time I checked, one only had to use the word revert and not revert back (you're being redundant).
It is so ironical that rediff posts articles almost everyday saying "Do you know your English?" only to have such mediocrity present in their own articles. Good job guys!
Love, peace and all that hair-grease.
