RE:VISWANATHAN ANAND

I had seen him once in Hotel Taj Koramandal,Chennai, when he was acompanying a guest. No one knows, as he was just like any other unknown guest walking around.Indians largely do respect "the game of gambling" where money is literally burnt upto govt, but not the brainy game which challenges the best of the brains in the world.India's head held high only on the sport of brain in the world...Hats off to Anand
The problem with Indians they respect drug addicts, gang leaders, mafia associates and forget to respect and recognise great persons. Sad the govt acts the same. Chess is a very great game and is the most respected game across the world. Atleast the young generation change the attitude.

Friend, on such a Good Occassion at least, plz. don't bring up Bullshit Regionalism. Why do you want to bring those stupid Media/ Politicians/ Regionalists in between? Agreed, they have done nothing or are doing nothing & will never do anything; but then thinking rationally, isn't that a Single - Handed Acheivement in itself by Anand on such an Adverse Background? It will be Best Service Done if these stupid Media/ Politicians/ Regionalists never come into the picture 'coz if they do, everything will be screwed up. Meanwhile, let's all Celebrate this Moment of Glory together, irrespective of Region/ Caste/ Creed etc.

hi guys i am not the one who thinks in the line of regionlism.. but if he was frm Mumbai or any other North Indian City .or if he is frm any Backward community he might have got the respect.. Indian media (esp the English News Channels ) are not giving any importance to South Indian sportpersons

No Karthik. It is not like that. Chess is a brain game. Not many can get attracted to brainy stuff. Perhaps their number is all the more less amongst journalists and media personnel.
I would like you all to recall in what esteem Krishnamachari Srikkanth was held during his cricketing days. He was liked by people from North South East West. Many people used to enter the cricket statium purely in order to see him him bat. The moment he got out, people used to leave the stadium. That was so because a substantially large number of people love Cricket and you have cricket lovers amongst media personnel too. Please let us not bring-in the regional/language/caste/class stuff here. Anand is held in high esteem by all of our countrymen who have a liking for Chess. If majority of people do not like Chess following from that they are ignorant of Chess players, you cannot blame anyone for that. Actually the number of Chess buffs have gone up considerably thanks to Anand and his exploits. The political class is a dumb lot which is smart enough in making money alone; they have no time for esoteric stuff such as Chess. Just take it easy. I am confident before long Anand will get the recognition what is due to him in our country.
