Congratulations to East Bengal coach Swarup Das and the young tigers. Bengal continues to be the home of Indian football. East Bengal and Mohun Bagan have been the torch bearers of football in our country during our life time and before. Prashanta Bannerjee, Tarun Dey and Krishanu Dey were some of the finest players we saw and admired for long. Let us hope we get to see such players all over again. A few years ago the young boys of East Bengal impressed one and all during the club competitions for youth at Mapusa's Duler grounds. Against their Indian counterparts from the Punjab, Goa and elsewhere the East Bengal young tigers played with style and grace.
Being a staunch and unwavering supporter of their arch-rival (Bagan) ever from my first breath, I am also impressed and plesantly surprised by the legend's observation of the team.
I humbly state that I am proud of my rival's achievement.
While it may surprise many that I praise them, sports have a significant effect on making the heart big. I will never change sides, and will always fight tooth-and-nail to defeat them, but will never forget to congratulate my rival when it matters.
