Fed may have a normal year and even lose no-1 spot eventually!
by ssbmat on Apr 25, 2007 07:14 AM

Federer LOST it by sending more forehands into the Mediterranian sea than the opponent's court. His sloppiness cost him his service and Nadal is too good not to hold on to the break. He's not no-2 for nothing..and worse, Federer did not even put up a decent fight in the 2nd..As much of a Fed-fan I am, I think he has mentally given up on beating Nadal on clay..you could almost sense it later in the 2nd set. He must be hoping that Nadal somehow loses in the runup to the French final, while he makes it (provided he doesnt run into Canas :))..I think Wilander was right..Fed doesnt have it in him to mentally dominate Nadal..or atleast hasnt shown it till now. I dont buy peoples argument about him saving his best for French Open.I think Fed is going to lose his no-1 spot in 2007. But of course, he's no-1 for over 160 weeks so he cant go on forever, can he?

i m federer fan....but no one can underestimate nadals feat on clay....this guy is unbeatable on brown surface, n federer has started realising that....u can clearly tell who dictates the point on clay between these two whenever u watch them play.....nadal is king of clay....no q

but with the change of colour of surface, story changes....nadal cant be categorised GREAT...but federer can as he is only losing to a monster of a clay courter but not to ever1...he is easily second best player on clay in the world...whereas nadal has to go a long way before he can challenge federers legacy...he looks anything but world no 2 on other surfaces...although he gets good results but by no mean he is a constant performer on grass or hard court...... perhaps nadal will finish his career with an overall edge over federer in their head to head clashes because federer will make to clay court finals( to be defeated by nadal)....but nadal wont be playing federer on other surfaces as he often go down earlier than final

Nadal is no match for federrer
by deepak deshmukh on Apr 22, 2007 11:32 PM  | Hide replies

Nadal is no match for Federer. On clay where balls comes slow anyone can win. Look at nadal recod in grandslam, he is too bad. On clay you need energy and as nadal is young he is able to beat Federer. But on class and skill Federer is way ahead of Nadal.

Yaa thats right, right now, in class Federer is long way ahead of nadal. But dont underestimate Nadal. He is only 20.See in 20 yrs of age Federer has not won any Grandslam. So he has time. And I thk u forgot abt Wimbledon(where he is runnersup) and US,Australian Open(where he was quarter finalist). So its long way to go man and Nadal will surely win others.

Grand Plan for Grand Slam?

I feel Federer is reserving his best for the French Open, which matters immensely to him for completing the Grand Slam.

The formula behind Nadal's dominance over Federer is that Nadal just keeps exploiting the Federer back-hand point after point, & Federer for some reason just cannot get it working against him ..makes way too many unforced errors..I cannot understand why Federer doesn't use the slice back-hand more often.

I agree 100% with you. Federer doesn't show a lot of emotion but I am sure he wants to beat Nadal on clay because Roger Federer is the undisputed champion of Tennis and he does not like losing. There is no question about the fact that Federer is the all time best tennis player just for his style and class. Forget the numbers and forget about clay. If anyone watched Federer beating Roddick in the Australian Open, they would not question what I just said.

there should be some more competition in tennis of today. If Federer wins all the time, it gets truly boring. I remember the time when borg and edberg used to fight it out. Their matches were classic. Nowadays, it is the boring Federer who has no emotion at all.....and no one to challenge him. Sad state of affairs.

borg had retired when edberg started playing, borg battled with john macenroe while edberg played some great matches with becker... you need to double check before posting here
