Leander Paes
by sai krishna on Apr 09, 2007 02:29 PM

Leander Paes is a true INDIAN. He never plays for personal goals, only when Playing for the country he pumps up 100 times more and given day he can beat any one. His Passion for the Mother land and Country is un-parallel. Indian cricketers should learn Desh Bakhti from Leander Paes. He is true Inidan. And in my Opinion he deserves BHARAT RATNA. Friends do you agree with me ?

Paes was , is and will always be a true Indian sports icon!.
by sudip majumder on Apr 09, 2007 02:19 PM

Paes for time and again demonstrated the true meanings of Indiacap and time and again catapulated himself to a different level when playing and rescuing India from a tight pot. I was fortunate to see hime live in Atlanta olympic - first ever individual olympic medal winner for Independent India - what a game!. His dad was a great sport too Dr Paes great Hocky player of India's glorious past and the hockey captain for my favorite Mohunbagan for sevaral years. Just wish, our much celebrated heroes in Cricket follow a little bit of footstep like Leander - and before anyone making any comments; his journey to the top of tennis was full of struggle too - no silver spoon was there in his mouth neither there was any rich sponsor too. Anyway, always very personal to see him doing great. HE IS THE ONLY SPORTS ICON INDIA COULD BE PROUD OF AS HE HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATING IT FOR COUNTLESS YEARS

Congrats leander for the heriocs. He and Anad is true sportsman who takes our tricolor flying high.I feel Mahesh let down India agreed Leander has ego problem they cant play together in professional circuit for that reason but Can some one not drop all his feeling for the sake of country after all country is bigger than player own ego clash whose loss is that country not players.

Amazing, i am speechless. Leander would have to be the most ever dedicated, commited and courageous sportsman that India has produced. At a ripe old age of 33, this guy continues to write history. In the current scenario, no other sportsmen or women (may be Anand) come anywhere near Leander. For over a decade now, he has waged a lonely battle for India in tennis. He could so easily do what Bhupathi has done and retire from playing Davis Cup which don't pay the players anything. He can so easily just concentrate on doubles on the tour. Yet he continues to play Davis Cup against opponents as odd as Pakistan and at venues as diverse as Kolkata and Beijing(in winters). You should be the most decorated sportsman Leander, and yet we Indians shower all the accolades on a bunch of self centred, inward looking, shamless cricketers which make up Team India. God save us and may god bless you.

While I have no doubt Leander has contributed a lot for this country in the Davis cups, he could have done better in his relationship with Mahesh. I believe the reason for their relationship turning sour lies more on Leander than on Mahesh. Leander is known to be the person with a big ego and someone who tried to hog the limelight in their relationship - from the reports it seems Mahesh felt quite hurt in the Asian games, and continued probably to just complete and get a medal for India. So if Mahesh has retired from Davis cup, it may be more because of Leander. Lets not conclude that cricketers are self centered - and there are many cricketers who probably have sacrificed more than Leander and got less for it.

Request you to resist yourself from being economic about acknowledging paes commitment and contribution. If U are telated to Bhupatai - then different issue! Show me a single instance Bhupati played for India and played like Paes did for several years!

Mr. Shankar, please don't bring any personal relationship in between the professional once. If you have any problem in your office with your collegue then you will go and honk it to the world? Let him do what he is doing, You have written as if you sit with them daily over a dinner...Come on be a gentlemen and leave your personal views at home...

You are such a silly South Indian speaking for them only. And who gave you the gr8 news that the relationship between Mahesh and Leander died bcoz of Leander?? Have you been to their drawing rooms?? And moreover its really true that sportsperson like Vishy or Leander did much more to bring glory to our country than our shameless cricketers.Shame on you Shankar for being so South centric

Leander is good in playing small tournaments and win them.

Why does not he participate in Men's singles US open/Aus open etc... ???
And compete with greats of the likes of Roger Federer.

He wins some Asian games and all of India sings songs about him.

Come on man, You have played enough doubles.

Move to next level now.

I think u r a cricket fan and now as blue-brigade as failed,u r temporarily shifting ur focus to tennis.leander is playing for the country, not for himself and thats why he plays in davis cup or asian games.people praises him due to the fact that he plays this tournament not to earn money but out of patriotism.
Leander has played and won top classs doubles and still one of the best in circuit.
Not in asiad olnly,he won the bronze medal for india in olympics also.
Better you get some knowledge about tennis and then comment.

There is something called 'having pride to play for India' - something called patriotism. Leander have demonstrated that countless time. I would never forget his Atlanta olympic match - the first ever individual olympic medal for independent India. very seldom, we get a pride bein Indian in the sports event that to a super mega event like Olympic (not the 'D' company manipulated WC types) and we got that - even in his last years match against pakistan - with a high fever; he resurrected hiself to a newer heights - that's called patritism - that's call commitment [of course most of the 'so-called' Indian fans neither do understand the meaning of these hallow words nor do they care)

Indian Tennis is a very small world and therez no much competition. It does not take much to become a Brian Lara of tennis.

I am just asking him to go further up and take up new challenges. That what real sportsmen do.

Therez no pointing doing the same thing again n again and winning same tournaments.

Age is no bar man. Its the attitude that matters.

And, of course, there r nameless guys like you, who keep praising small acheivements.
