YES - YOU ARE RIGHT
ONE GOOD PERFORMANCE AND YOU ARE KING - GOD - AND WHAT NOT... ONE SLIP - FROM NO.1 - MAY BE JUST ONE BAD DAY - AND YOU SLIP TO NO. 3/4/5/ - THEN - COMMENTS - YOU ARE HUNGRY FOR MONEY - NO PRESTIGE - YOU DON'T LOVE YOUR COUNTRY ......ETC.. FROM PEOPLE WHO THEMSELVES HAVE NEVER-MIND YOU - NEVER EVEN EXCELLED IN ANYTHING AND DON'T UNDERSTAND THE PRESSURES OF INTERNATIONAL TORNAMENTS. ASK SACHIN . EVEN AFET 17 YEARS OF UNPARRELLED SERVICE TO THE COUNTRY - PEOPLE TALK OF EARNING MILLIONS BY HIM ....... !!!!!!!!!!!!1
We are proud of your achievement. All the best for your future.I sincerely hope that our over rated, under performing cricketers will be inspired by your stupendous achievements.
Your acheivement should inspire the one billion cricket fan club of India. truly u have put a check mate to all your opponents. your are the undisputed king of this game. U have conquered back our game.
A country of 1100 million is having only 11 grandmasters !!! Shameful.
Forget comparison with Russia or USA, tiny Serbia, Isreal, Netharlands, Croatia, Sweden have MORE grandmasters than India. These countries have a population LESS THAN DELHI !
cONCLUSION - Viswanathan Anand is doing well, India is NOT. Hope we stop jumping like monkeys and while wishing Viswanathan Anand the very congratulation not forget that we are not superpowers in chess (or any other sport).
Once again congratulations viswanathan anand despite pathetic state of Indian chess you made it.

chess is basically an individual sport, not a team sport like cricket, anand is indian, so india is doing good, as indians we have every right to enjoy the moment
I remmember watching a 14-yr Vishy Anand play in the National Chess Championship held in my college (SIT-Tumkur) Auditorium. He was zipping through his moves and even though he was muich talked about, nobody wud ve thought that he could go on to be the World Junior Champ as a 15-16 yr old and now the overall No.1. Great news for India !! Vishy, u truely make us feel proud and have inspired many youngsters take up the sport and produce champs like Humpy, Hari, Negi, etc.. Keep the Indian Flag flying !!
It is both a great honour as well as appropriate for an Indian to occupy the No.1 slot in World Chess. After all, the game of chess was invented in India and it was high time that an Indian held this high spot. Many congratulations and all the best for continued success. Raghbendra Jha
