Then stop playing tennis , switch to chess. From "working on my fitness and stamina" to "i can never.." , this shows her mental attitude. Whats next "i known i cant play proper teniss ...." blah blah blah

As i said sometime back , "welcome to earth sania"

Krishnan!
Even for chess you need to be fit mentally. Otherwise you cant play. we have to blame the media(print, electronic and Tv) for pver hyping Sania. She never went to semi's or finals of any WTA tour in which top players played. She won the Hydrabad open cause no top ranked took part in that

re: Sania Mania

Unless quoted out of context, this comment confirms the fact that Sania was, is and will remain (at best) an average sportsperson. Her "fitness is not my forte" comment reflects the typical Indian attitude of giving up easily using the pretext - "Sorry, I can't change! I am born like this.".

Instead of working doubly harder to increase her fitness levels and supplement her lusty forehand, she claims that it's simply not her forte. Does that mean she can't build it? Did her peers on the WTA stick to a permanent fitness regimen, from the time they signed up for the tour? Didn't they recognize, accept, and subsequently work towards doing away with their weaknesses.

I think it's time to stop using the "Indian-tennis-sensation" phrase in Sania Mirza's context. It'll help save sponsors & consumers their hard earned moolah, which could be put to better use in other sports like football or hockey. We may not be skillful at those sports but at least our teams maintain their fitness levels and try their best, despite empty stadiums and no television coverage.

The Sania Mirza hype
by Shinu Thomas on Sep 20, 2006 02:09 PM

A player who has achieved nothing much but is still idolized. This can only happen in India. She has also accepted that her aim is just to stick around in top 50 in world ranking (now she has slipped to 70). No service, no fitness, no ambition. A mediocre player helped by lot of hype and lack of sporting heroes.

Sania's comments are Rubbish
by John Payso on Sep 20, 2006 02:08 PM

just like her game, It is so sad that in Indian Tennis we never had a female idol and we had one (Sania) she blew out of propotion in fame but not in her Game.

Probably this is part of the survival tactics, I would love to see good NSA (no strings attached) sponsorship going to younger budding players- who do nothing but concentrate on winning instead of getting phtographed shopping and losing on the courts.

Without Fitness there is no Champion and might be fine in Indian sports areana where you can beat smallites 6-0, 6-4 and talk great, but not in the international areana, where fit, light, aggressive and resourceful bodies do better than the lousy hard hitting non movable objects like Sania.
