Just totally reprehensible the state of affairs in our nation about our national sport. What shocked me most was how even the media, including rediff, just didn't care about the cup, on rediff, day of the opening match with Ger, there was nothing about it on the home page, nothing on the sports page and a mention about india's chances of our team on the "hockey" page....3rd or 4th article. Same goes with TOI, just a small mention in "today's events" on the "sports page"...... Agreed that the team didn't have a chance, what with all the rot that has set in, in Mr KPS Gill's personal fiefdom..... Feel it's high time media stops just crying foul and helps expose that rot to atleast give our lads a fair chance ! Mr Dhyan Chand must be weeping in heaven, bless his soul ! Regards, Hemant
I have never seen the indian hockey team perform as badly as this !!! I cant believe that "hockey" is supposed to be our national game and the national team is fighting to save itslef the embarrassment of finishing last in the world cup !!! Shame on the players and i dont believe the team can give any valid excuse for such a miserable performance.
Guess atleast now we will wake-up to the rude realisation that Indian hockey is in the pits. Big talks by bunch of jokers sitting at IHF and coaches like V Baskaran who havnt done anything so far, need to sacked. In my view, get fresh team, just sack all of them, so even if we loose atleast we will have some new excuse saying that we have a young team.
And hockey lovers please stop asking why hockey is not as popular as cricket. With such pathetic performance, its hard to find sponsors for even ineternational tournaments. No innvativeness, strategy or gameplan from the coach. Its time for a BIG overhaul for Indian hockey right from the top of IHF president to the last player who sits on the bench!!!
I fully agree that India's habbit of solo-playing and dribbling give abundant time for opponents to re-group and tackle, n thats the big advantage to play a team game like european style which is faster and dont let opponents to have sufficient time to recover/regroup and we r still struggling in penalty cornerss I think we need to get help of psychology to improve on not repeating the mistakes and need to keep an eye over physical fitness as well
Hey Hockey our national Sport had been going on the decline.This was the only sport other than tennis(Leander ,Bhupathi) where Our indian spirit was inside the heart.... Leave cricket it is Just bollywood Hype whether deliver Hit or flop................. It let me thinking tht No sports ever exist in India.. Please Find reason wht minister of Sports is watching?????
First of all let me offer you my salutations, this is for solving the terrorist problem that our beloved state Punjab in particular and India our country in general was going through. But Sir, the same does not apply in sports, we had very high expectations from you, sadly we have been let down. Sir, my earnest request to you, I am sure you are a revolutionary in mind and spirit, please ensure that the game is revived at the earliest. Please get rid of players who do not give their best. It is my personal view that please drop these players. {Do we really need to name them} Frankly speaking what does it take for a sports loving country like INDIA and for futuristic person like your esteemed self to prepare a right team. Let me a novice try; 1] One Penalty Corner Flicker (we could get enough in Punjab or Haryana), 2] One striker I think we have today one in Shivendra, 3] Not to mention we have an excellent half line, I think the best in the world today. 4] A phsychologist for the team players as well as managers as well, for both lose their cool. {One of the main reosens] and I am sure we would be No. 1 again.
