LAST MINUTE PENALTY
by Vishal Mehra on Jun 27, 2006 02:25 PM

Well! If you see the replay, the Penalty was not there. It really hurts the Sportsman spirit and we should not give penalty in Times out time. (Make it a rule). I must appreciate if players of Italy refused to take this Penalty and take the game to Extra time. (This is Sportsman Spirit).

bad decision

the decision was horrible --- it was not even a foul. gatusso tripped over the defender who was already down. who knows -- may be australia would have won either in extra time or via penalty shoot outs

It Was Not a Penalty.

Poor Aussies, I feel for them. They made a match out of it but at the last moment during three minutes of added time they lost the match simply because of a wrong decision by the Spanish referee to award a penalty to Italy who were at the receiving end throughout the 90 minutes battle. This world cup is no doubt witnessing the poorest quality of supervision. FIFA should wake up now so as to finish the competetion smmothly.

italy did not deserve to win!

i am truly upset by the referee's wrong decision to
award italy a penalty when no foul was there.it seems
all the referees at this world cup are determined to
ensure that big nations win the cup.australia truly
deserved to win!italy are now going to face ukraine
and i feel italy is lucky.but they will be knocked
out in the semis.germany, argentina, brazil or spain
will win the cup this time.

Italians helped by the referee!
by Gururaj on Jun 26, 2006 11:16 PM

The Socceroos were cheated by the unfortunate last second penalty kick awarded by the referee. The Aussie player was not at all fault, forget the ball, he did not even actually touch the Italian player to cause his fall.

In my view it could have gone into extra time and then penalty shootout. Aussies were unfortunately shortchanged by the referee.

Such incidents create doubt in the public mind that some external elements decide who would move in to next round.
