Ronaldo has not forgotten the art of scoring !
by Dr. Cajetan Coelho on Jun 26, 2006 12:26 PM

Brazil is playing to a plan. Ronaldo is a tough guy enthusiastically carrying enormous weight of the expectations of his countrymen, team mates and fans. His ability to head and shoot were there for every one to admire in his latest encounter against the fast moving Japanese.

If one observes carefully, at any given time there are atleast two to three rival defenders closely marking the dangerous Ronaldo. Unlike in the past, Ronaldo plays a slower waiting game which forces his markers to be with him all the time. That leaves the field a bit open for the rest of the Brazilians to go for the kill. Artists like Ronaldinho, Kaka, Robinho, Cafu, Emerson, Juninho and others need more space to run and display their talents. Modern football has become super fast and experts say barring the goal keeper most players run 12 to 15 kilometres during the course of a ninety minutes game. Previously the running may have been around four kilometres at the most.

Today players keep running in all directions forming crowds leading to frequent stampedes and earning referees yellow and red cards. Touch artists, ball jugglers, thinking footballers need space to display the beauty of good football.

by sunil sharma on Jun 24, 2006 04:02 PM

no guys i would not agree that ronaldo is back to his best but he has enough class in himself to shine at the world cup.saying that recently his club form for real madrid hasnt been great.gone are those days when he was a goal scoring machine .nowdays i wouldnt even rank him amongs the top five strikers.my top 5 strikers would be
henry, nistelrooy, shevchenko, eto and kaka[i would not count ronaldinho as an out an out striker]

thanks

We are mere observers
by Mukesh on Jun 24, 2006 12:36 PM

Only the other players and the team coach of Brazil can really comment on the performance of Ronaldo. We are mere observers lets agree. A single day performance should not be the measure of somebody's failure or success.

The World Cup and Ronaldo
by surekha tenneti venugopal on Jun 24, 2006 11:29 AM

Watching the World Cup matches is indeed something else. During a fast, rearing match, so many human qualities are on show and on test.
To me personally, among all the teams, undoubtedly Brazil and Argentina seema to be the best passers of the ball on the field- and they do it with ease and grace.
Sweden seemed surprisingly tough, while Germany work harder than they have talent.
As for Ronaldo, how fickle is human adulation ! When the redoubtable Ronaldo did not score goals in the first couple of games, the media was raising questions like should Ronaldo be dropped ? And when he hits a goal or two, he again zooms to the best-footballer tag ! The famous and the talented have it tough indeed !
