Argentina's attack
by sharath on Jun 23, 2006 04:34 PM

I dont think Argentina stands exposed mainly on two to three reasons which i would like to mention.First
thing is that they needed only a draw ,which means that they wanted to try out their bench strength.Another thing was this 'tight European defence' which we are talking about was said to closing in on Riquelme which meant that his passes were made ineffective. Is Argentina's attack depending only on Riquelme?.I dont think so,they have so many attacking options which can be converted to goal scoring oppurtunities. However in that match they decided to stick on only to have a mojority over the central midfield instead of using the flanks which they normally do to counter such a
defensive ploy. The third reason is that thier second
round match just comes exactly two days after 21st their last group match i.e on 24th.So probably they dint want to strain too much also.So the opinion that
Argentina's attack is exposed to strong defence is un acceptable

by sam on Jun 23, 2006 11:28 AM

the way brazilian defence is being exposed !! god save them if pekermen decides to play like Brazil(four strikers) with messi tevez crespo n saviola . brazil will get belted badly on current form .as far as midfield is concerned pablo aimar n riquelme will be handful for any one (yes brazil included)if included together.don't read too much abt brazil's defeat of japan.argentina on current form will drub japan 8-0 .

I think argentina will get knocked out in d quarters by either england or germany.i know eng hv not been playing well,n eith owen gone there chances hv worsened.but i expect them 2 peak when it matters d most.i do feel sorry 4 d 2 african teams, angola n ivory coast, who with some luck might hv qualified.kudos 2 ghana 2 though 4 their spectacular display as they go on 2 d next stage.but all i'd end up with is:ENGLAND!ENGLAND!!ENGLAND!!!

Good Luck Argentina...........
by Shibu Nair on Jun 22, 2006 03:59 PM

I think it is a part of their strategy. They dont want to lose their energy and getting injured by playing hard game before 2nd round. Also there must be some belief, that, they dont want to lose the luck of goal scoring opportunity for an un important game. They will surely hit back in the second round.

Yes, they were exposed. They were nowhere near their natural game. We were disappointed. God save Agentina from here onwards.

Do Argentina stand exposed?

Do you think so? No way. In fact in their Group stage encounter with Holland; Dutch inability to break thru the Argentina Defense has been exposed. Look at Edwin Vander Sar. He almost has no clue while the shot from Roman Riquelme has went past him twice and closed shaved the goal post. So far the most impressive team and over-all performance is by Argentina only; then by Spaniards.

Argentina - bench strength
by Parthasarathy on Jun 22, 2006 02:29 PM

I don't think Argentina made a mistake by playing bench people in starting 11. Dutch were lucky y'day to end the match as draw. If Crespo / Saviola were playing the result might be different.

With injury to England chances of their winning world cup are very low.

I think Brazil, Argentina, Spain, or Germany has best chance to lift the cup.

Argentina's match with holland
by bodhisatwa ray on Jun 22, 2006 02:22 PM

Argentina did not play their key striker Hernan crespo, and also their captain Sorin. Messi was taken away in the middle of second half. so wat does that say? simple...tht Argentina did not put in their full steam. Rodriguez tokk 2-3 shots at the goal himself, when he shud have passed it to messi, tevez or cambiosa standing in vantage positions close to him. why? he got 2 goals in the game against serbia, and Klose has 4 till now, so he wanted to score to be in contention for the golden boot. tevez's shots pierced the dutch defence many times, and so did requelme's. Messi mesmerized everybody with his speed and dribbling and powerful shots, but inexperience showed a bit. And the one save by the dutch goalie off tevez's shot was lucky and outstanding...it was a sure goal.
My fear was tht Argentina may have peaked early against serbia, but they played very maturedly, and are decidedly the best team of the tournament. It remains to be seen whether they can win the world. as far as their opponents in future games, they face germany in QF and maybe italy in SF, if there are no major upsets. tough luck!but voila! viva la Argentina!! they cab beat anybody anybody!

No way they are not exposed, instead they are the only team who showed exemplery dribbiling, passing skills & I vouch that they will definately give Brazil-the hot favourates "A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY".
