In this article it is mentioned that Spain had Alfredo Di Stefano and Ferenz Puskas in its ranks, but somehow my understanding was that Alfredo Di Stefano played for Argentina and Ferenz Puskas for Hungary, and that Di Stefano was considered as one of the greatest players who played in the Spanish league for Real Madrid, correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

Rahul

Alfredo Di Stefano was Argentine by birth but played his international matches for his adopted country Spain. Just like Luis Monti who appeared in two WC title match --- in 1930 for Argentina and in 1934 for Italy. Di Stefano was a member of Spain's 1962 WC squad. But coach Helenio Herrira did not give him an opportunity to take part in the playing XI in any of the matches.
Ferenc Puskas was the star of the Hungary team of 1954 WC, known as "Magic Magyars". After the Soviet occupation in 1956, he left his native land and became a citizen of Spain. He then appeared in 1962 WC and played all the matches that Spain took part in.
