What ever happened, happened at the heat of the moment. We can only speculate possibilities until Zidane decides to open his mouth.
Zidane as a player was a genius... He is one of the worlds top five midfielders of all time... without question. While ardent fans will debate about Fontane or Platini being the greatest French footballer.... I would like to think it was Zidane. Where he comes from... What are his roots... are really none of our business... He is, was,and always be one of the greatest footballers of all time.
Any self respecting person would have done the same thing what Zidane did.I am hundred percent sure that Zidane was provoked, otherwise, no any person of the stature of Zidane would have risked his positision in such a crunch match.Italians also played great, but I think that the italian player should not have stooped to such a low level just to lift the FIFA trophey. It appears that it was well planned on the part of Italians.
It is the Media's interpretation that Materazzi used such words. But in reality only Materazzi and Zidane knows the truth. How can Zidane understand Italian language ?? I think Materazzi should not be blamed without knowing the actual facts. Both are the lone goal scorers for their countries in the finals and both equally deserves accolades.

Vasu, What on earth makes YOU feel Matterazzi spoke Italian when he spoke to Zizou........? Do YOU lip-read Italian dialect????? Use your brains........if they conversed on the field, they must have spoken a common language! We do not know what it was.........but, I'm sure it was painful for Zizou & which was why things happened! Matterazzi deserved what he got.........
what zidane did was an spontaneous reaction, he should have done more to the italian. well done ZIDANE. ITALIANS stole the world cup rather than winning it.
Zidane you are something to football what sachin is to cricket. You will be remembered for decades as a person who revolutionised the game and taught a lesson to people that age does not matter if you have a will to succeed.
If this is true (I hope the truth comes out in the events to conspire over the next few days), I would feel this is an extremely difficult thing to digest w/o reacting for any man. However, being Zinedine Zidane, arguably the greatest footballer of the decade, he ought to have taken the gravity of the situation into consideration and not have reacted in this fashion to destroy both the hopes of millions of French and world football lovers as well as end his career in such controversy. But again that being said, it is a very difficuly thing to digest calmly. I support him for standing for the dignity of his family but crticize him for not handling this in a more professional fashion, may be by bringing the facts out after he had won the match.
