This match will go down as a classic in WC history. Hardly ever do we get to see an encounter between two so very evenly matched adversaries! Feel fortunate to have witnessed history being made last night.. In the end, kudos to Italy. They seem to have shaken off that 2nd round embarassment in the hands of the Aussies and have emerged much stronger! For Germany one can only say that had well and truly 'met their match'.. Better luck to them the next time around!
In response to one of the columns in this site, couple of days earlier, I had expressed that it could be an Italy-France Final despite Germany playing really well.
One half of what I foresaw has happened yesterday.
5th july: Italy played aggressive and focused football with clinical precision of passes and teamwork. Germany also played well and both missed/messed some chances; but in the end it was Italy's grit and dominance that gave them the edge at the whistle. Well done Italy.
Last week it was on Rediff about the predictio that SPain will win world cup 2006 as per predicitions done way back in 1556. perhaps it is Portugal which also has to cross the Pyranees mountains and enter Germany. Now that Portugal has come upto semifinals, it has every chance to make it.
