So, what's new? This kind of atrocious behaviour from the fans of the great football clubs of Kolkata is nothing new. The volatile tempers and the questionable behavior of the football fans of Kolkata remains the same over four decades. It was the same story when it was Calcutta! Only the name changed, not the mindset of the fans! Any outsider would think the losing team was pitted against another country's -to feel so frustrated as to go to blows! Can't we take it as just a football game, and enjoy leisure sports for what they are. Why should we flare up so much? Strange are our ways. At this rate no sportsperson or athelete would like to make a career of these and as it is we have nothing much to crow about. It is downright silly! Wake up Kolkata! East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan Sporting, George Telegraphs etc. all your own jewels. One has to win, some one has to lose - whether in football or in cricket. Why get so flustered?
Yes, it is all very commercial and all, still game is a game, a sport is a sport. You need to take it sportingly when one loses, and be graceful about it to the winner and to the loser. Don't let the mount police throw around their batons!
