setting expectations.

Not to be uncharitable to Ms.Mirza , especially as i was a fan of hers in her debut season , i think "setting expectations" sounds like "getting excuses in early" . Right now my expectations are centered on whether she will make it past the first round, which in itself is no mean task - say at the US Open.

When i was 19-20, if i had the money that Ms.Mirza has, i would most probably piss it away. I give Ms.Mirza that much credit - for not doing that. But lately i get the feeling, there is too much pfaff around her game, media assignments , ridiculous frames on her glasses and not enough focus on her game. She has the best forehand i have seen in the contemprary game. Steffi Graf won titles on the forehand alone! Its an asset.

That she is an attractive young woman is undeniable, but she will earn respect in her own eyes and her peers and old geezers like me, by what she does on the court. Not by crashing out of the Sunfeast Open (even that!) for example.
