Organizing common wealth games a national pride and honour...Prashant Gupta
by on Jan 18, 2008 05:37 PM

Let us not pay heed to such opportunist and descrutive comments from a few corner meant only for this only..Let us not get detracted, deterred , demotivated and demoralised by such comments. Perhaps it speaks more about the narrowness of the perspective with which they are looking at this event..Neway..I want to put my vote, money, trust and thrust on the successful completion of such mega projects / events which is of utmost importance for the national fame, glory, recognistion and investments which its going to bring along with it to the country.

Its time to unite...
by Shashi on Jun 08, 2006 08:45 AM

With an International Commitment like the commonwealth games, India is displaying its capabilities to the world. This is the time when everyone should unite for the cause and disregard people like Sharad Yadav whop would always like to use the cause for his own political benefits. The Games will boost India's reputation at the world stage which will provide long term benefits for the country.

Money should be used for better purposes
by A.Singh on Jun 07, 2006 11:13 PM

i totally support the idea of not hosting commonwealth games in india. as a true indian i would like this money to be spent on some hospitals or establishing education institutes in backward ruaral areas.

i am living in melbourne from last couple of years and i witnessed commonwealth games 2006 here. it was a fact that some of the tickets were left unsold and businesses went down instead of gaining. Commonweatlh is not a big event as olympics so we should not expect big turn out.

well 11 min dance at the closing ceremony created good image of india. accoring to my experience Austrlians love bollywood and they acknowledge stars like ashwariya rai and others. still local people appraise that dance when they talk to us thus making us feel proud as indian.

CWG
by sarath on Apr 15, 2006 12:14 PM

I agree that india should not host the CWG not because of the waste of money but it doesn't deserve
to host any big sporting event other than cricket as
it is only a country of filmstars and cricketers.No-
body has a sporting culture. The fact that 23 crores were spent during the closing ceremony, were spent uselessly.Mind you the D/A paid to the athletes were only about 26A$,whereas all these stage performers
were paid one crore each.So it is a question of where
the money was spent and not a question of whether the
money spent was usefull or not.As far using this money for educational puposes,i think we have a lot of organizations to support this.We dont even have a
proper athletic track to host any international meets. The
fact what hurts me is that bollywood filmstars are made to be involved in this rather than our sporting heros. That is why India doesn't deserve to host the cwg.

India WILL host the Commonwealth Games
by Girish Chauhan on Apr 15, 2006 05:24 AM

India has committed to host the Commonwealth Games and must honour that committment. Obviously politicians like Sharad Yadav have no idea what committment means. And if he was so opposed to the idea, why was the issue not raised when India was bigging for the games.
The Commonwealth Games provide an oppotunity for India to showcase itself to the world. Revenue from the games will help offset the cost of the games. Many industries like tourism will benefit directly from the games.
Delhi, the host of the games, will also get a much needed makeover. Its unfortunate that politicians like Sharad Yadav have nothing better to do then pick on non-issues because they cant bother to deal with the real issues. India has committed to host the games and WILL host the games whether Yadav likes it or not.

games must be hosted
by munna on Apr 15, 2006 01:43 AM

Commonwealth games must be host with full grandeur. This will promote India brand image, provides good infrastructure in Delhi and promote tourism. My message to Mr Sharad Yadav is that why so many politicians are holding so many rathyatras,mandir-mandal yatras,so many activists for their rallies travel freee in train and cause crores of rupees to be spent.why dont they give that money to delhi University or for students of backward communities.Dont hold rallies and yatras and give that money to universities please.

50-50
by Megh on Apr 15, 2006 12:31 AM

I do not agree with Mr. Sharad Yadav as far as hosting of International Gaming events goes.
India need to host (and win some medals too!!) international gaming events other than Cricket.
How can you probably justify one medal in Olympics for a country with population of 1 billion (and growing!!!)

But, I fully agree with him that huge amount that IOA spent on extravagant 'filmi' event was totally uncalled for.
Why do you need Aishwarya and Shahrukh Khan to promote a Sporting Event. What are the contributions from Ms. Rai and Mr. Khan towards Indian Sports?
A Road Show with some eminent Sport Persons would have been sufficient (I do understand that we don't have a lot of them!).But, if you want to show 'Rich Cultural Heritage' of our great country, then go and arrange for the display of splendid Indian classical and tribal art forms.
I strongly object such superfluous spending of Taxpayers money (and think that every other taxpayer should do the same).
Suresh Kalmadi and company should explain their irresponsible behavior. What are the options for recovering this money from these IOA committee members??

c'wealth games
by sumit on Apr 14, 2006 10:07 PM

It is disgusting on the part of politicians who spend so much on celebrities but give so less to hardworking athletes. I think the games in N Delhi can be success but ultimately the cost will be paid by common man as goverment will take out money from the fund which is meant for public. Moreover Delhi don't have the infrastructure to hold such a mega event.
