This stuff around Sania is just hype thanks to Globosport's media management and our obssessive emotional behaviour. She has seen her best and cannot sustain top 50 may not even top 100. Windfall gain to windfall loss is my prediction.

Sania and time management

This is for those who cricicize the hype as cynics! In our country of pygmies, even a dwarf by world standards is tall. This is exactly the hype which damage our celebrities, not just in sports but in all fields. We create celebrities too early. Either on the sports page or page three. Farrington was not there when we created a TV series on Leander Paes ALA bodyline with just one success in his bag. Where is he now on the world map ? Not even in the world also ran list ! Look at Ganguly and Laxman. Centuries against Zimbabwe followed by stupid comments, followed by scores of eight and sixteen respectively in the next test !! Press, keep off these rising sportspersons. Wait till the time is right for the celebration. Ape western press of their right acts.

Well its good if she wins grand slams but the biggest problem with our country is you tend to create a great deal of hype within a short period of time. Its not even been an year Sania has come into this arena and she is now endorsing big products.Let her concentrate on her tennis or else she will be also be another person who jumped into ring of success for a very short period of time.We have already seen many sportstars who achieve something and forget about it as soon as they get money and fame.

The mania that it is...
by Vijay on Sep 21, 2005 11:41 PM

Well, Sania Mirza has got talent and loads of that as well. And as you suggest, may be doing Indian sport a world of good which is obsessed with Cricket. The media as is so common these days is hyping it up. I have never seen jounalism degrade to such levels as when news papers across the nation carried "sania in sari" captions on their front pages.. a matter of national importance, huh? Well, I must be frank here.. I thought thats another case of end of a career by the Media just like a Gopichand or Maleeswari who faded away... blown by the media. But I must admit, for a change Sania seems to a lot tougher mentally and she has handled things pretty well. But to compare Sania with Sachin??? are you nuts? gimme a break... what the hell was that.. I have seen some news items over the internet that claimed Sachin's importance in Indian sport is being fast replaced by sania. Whatever the ulterior motives of peolpe who carry such headlines are, the Truth is India had never had a better sports personality than Sachin and never will. You talk of handling pressure guys, with all the frenzy the media has raked up for the past 15 years and perform Consistently is some thing no one else can.

Sania can win Grand Slams

Both coach Farrington and co-player Anastasia Myskina are correct. Where Sania can reach depends on her. She has the techniques, she has the game and what she needs is the single-minded devotion and concentration like that of mythological Arjun to shoot the eye of the fish. People of India will be always at the back of her, will wish and pray for her success.

Sania ''Mania and Madness''
by Rajesh on Sep 21, 2005 01:42 PM

God, every webpage u open these days has news of the new kid on the Indian tennis block. There seems to be an overdose of articles not related to how she plays or what her game looks like, but how her nose rings and ear rings are setting a new trend. Fine she is setting a trend, literally wears an attitude, speaks fluent oneliners and looks you in the eye. So what, give me a break!! Let me know when she wins a grand slam or a Tier 2 or above competition. I did follow her tennis for a while, but the overdose has killed my interest in her tennis. Probably the advertisers tell her the image they want her to portray and the media picks up what ever is on offer. Sitting in Japan, when I talk of Tennis its Sania who?? They know only grand slam winners and their own players who have made it to top 10 or 15. Thats for a society that values excellence and does not mix sports with fashion or religion. Sania is great prospect all right, but am looking forward to the day she drubs the likes of Sharapova and wears that score on her t shirt. Then she would really be worth all the ink spent on oneliners and words punched on the keyboard. Till then, all the best Sania, you are a great prospect.
