Crazy Sania
by Mohammed Barkathullah on Sep 18, 2005 12:24 PM

No doubt Sania showing good performance in every game, i appreciate her efforts she doing to build her carrier as well as enrolled her name in Indian History, she is from Muslim family and in our religion girls should not expose themselves, i agree she is wearing shorts which is not advisable in Islam, I hope Sania also knows how to keep her safe from other eyes, she is matured girl and she have faith and she also afraid of Allah tala, so it depends on her how to cover herself, she knows allah tala seeing her. I also like to tell that whatever she is doing is best for her, now a days nobody will give us 100 rupee if we ask, today Sania bring her name up and she also earned good amount with her efforts and struggle, i would like to tell that when people can't give 100 rupee to anyone then nobody have rights to tell anything to anyone, whatever person is doing in this world they have to suffer in Aakhirat, if a person going against Islam then he/she may suffer, but if he/she doing things by keeping Allah tala in their heart then they need not to worry. I just want to tell Sania that she knows very well about Islam and she can take care of herself, if possible try to wear long skirt.

Sania Mirza
by suvarun dalapati on Sep 18, 2005 09:29 AM

The, interview in the proper sense, was 'electric'. these days the tennis, which Sania Mirza is playing is good enough to mesmerize the Indians, agreed. But the question is how long and how good (or better)is it going to get as time passes by. As for now, the accolades come pouring down on India's latest sporting icon. But one must remember that in a country of a 100-crore people, the fans are hoping to see much more from Sania in the years to come, not just 3rd and 4th round defeats, but final-wins in the WTA major events and finally, realizing the ultimate dream of winning the first Grand Slam singles title by any Indian. The press should help her in this regard by encouraging her efforts to play better tennis, rather than putting her in the frontpages for all the not-so-important and not-at-all important issues. Let us not forget that we really have a bright young talent in our hands, which need not be wasted. And finally, comparison with a certain Ms. Graf may not be totally necessary here. She had won the Golden Grand Slam of Tennis (All the four Grand Slams as well as the Olympic Gold Medal in singles )in the year 1988 with that all-conquering forehand!!

maan... that's just plain rude
by Arun on Sep 18, 2005 04:22 AM

That's not attitude, it's rude... when a reporter asked her about her game being inconsistent and she shoots back "u think so?"... of course, why else would he ask? That's no way to talk! Look at Tendulkar or dravid - best batsmen in the world, but you'll hardly ever see them talk like this! Even Kumble... Sania Mirza isn't even close to that league yet - She needs a lesson in humility and etiquette... It is the media that has made her a star - she's not all that great yet. Rest assured, the climb from 42 to top 20 (if she manages it) wont be as dramatic as 137 to 42.

Hi Sania
by achu on Sep 17, 2005 10:31 PM

Hi Sania,

You are India's pride Just as Saurav Ganguly. The only similaririty in both of you are that you are too sentimental and sensitive.

If you both work on ignoring these stinking journalists and just stay away from media as much as possible, you will come out truumps, and Iam sure you will do that.

Your fellow indian Fan.

Not really an Icon
by John Payso on Sep 17, 2005 09:40 PM

with due respect to the lady of indian tennis, I still am waiting for the 'wake of indian sports stars' Its going to be quite some time as at the moment there are many yound minds in the sports in India, as we indians did not see many sports stars in india we adore anyone who make some news!,,,Sania is already 19 and has about another 5-8 years of Tennis left,,to grow up on the No.1 spot she will have to start beating poeples alikes of Maria,,,not to forget Maria made it into top ten when she was much younger than Sania.

Appreciate the Indian Industries supporting Indian sports(apart from Cricket), now its the players (sania/Narain etc..) who will have to support our prides.

Sania Sania and Sania
by Jimmy Noronha on Sep 17, 2005 08:42 PM

Sir,

Sania should either put herself in tennis or go to glamour world, she cannot have the cake and eat it too, but all that I see of her is in glamour clothes, glorious ad conquests and relatively less glory in tennis court, if it is so, certainly she will stop dead before the likes of Sarapova and Serena.

Go easy on the word check dude....
by Nishank on Sep 17, 2005 07:49 PM

The lingo used in the article is fairly informail and thus quite enjoyable. However, Sumit, go easy on the auto word check facility on your word processor. Seen Steffi's make headlines enough times to know that her name's Graff not Graph. Made the mistake twice mate. Not good for a tennis writer, not at all.....
