I should change my attitude, not them!
by Vikram Madhusudan on Nov 08, 2005 08:45 PM

Our general consensus is to blame the attitude of the country as a whole, while inspite we are being hypocrates. For that matter, can I ask the author, whether he would be ready to guide his children to become sportsmen, not many famiies would. Let us agree the bottomline, we are a poverty stricken nation, who care more a meal or two, rather care about sporting events and fitness! Going by my argument, the possible chance that sports can be taken up would be in a well-off family, but can we see the kind of determination and grit required? Again possibly no.

On the positive side, I believe that the Corporate sectors can invest in developing sports in India. As we have seen Mittal Group has taken a Giant stride towards achieving this goal. Sponsporships, media coverage play a key role to inspire a person to make a career out of sports. Presentation can be a key too. HOw many of us were watching Cricket in thegood old Doordarshan telecast. Not many. But check out now...over 10 channels. We are atleast getting to see some quality sports, which may inspire people. Why else is Cricket such a successful sport in our country? There is money in that sport and everybody knows!

other than cricket

I agree with you about evrything, but we have to be sports lover and exclude cricket entirely. Cricket is always fixed. Cricket is just a drama played at the expense of cricket lovers and crowd in the stadium. We have to train the child when they are just in the bud stage and once they blossom they are fully trained and competetive. That is exactly how USA and australia have been doing. This step has to be taken care of only by the parents ata very early stage for their children.

Rathore on Sports
by Hanumanth Rao Singam on Sep 19, 2005 01:15 PM

On the comments of Lt Col Rathore many people have expressed their views out of which few have been covered in this site. What is the net effect of covering the views of thousands of readers ? Is Mr.Rathod keeping track of response to his comments or leave the thing just like that. Mr. Rathore should compile these views, views of sportsmen of other games who have played for INDIA, continue to associate with sports and lead a delegation to the Hon'ble Prime Minister and impress upon him the need to provide decent employment to the sports persons who have represented the country on 'TOP PRIORITY' basis and lay guidelines to be implemented by states. The percentage of sports quota should be increased with performance based incentives to players, Coaches and even to the states. Infracture should be developed in localities, schools and Colleges. A multi purpose hall compulsory on the roof top of the buildings for sports activity where-ever grounds are notthere will change the school level senario. All the National championships and Major tournaments of (all the age groups)all games should be telecasted live for encouragement and popularise other games.

Sports as entertainment ?
by rrbb on Sep 07, 2005 02:03 AM

Why should govt. keep supporting sportsmen ?? Sportsmen should generate their own income by capitalising on the "entertainment value" of their sports. This attitude of govt. dependency is what the main problem is. Sportsmen do not understand that they are first entertainers than anything else and should use their skill for entertaining people and then getting their money in return. Where are their entertainment skills ?? what are the leaders in sports doing ?? Can't they find out how americans "sell" sports ??
