George's surname was eponymous with his footballing talent. Best represented a progressively ebbing genre of sportspersons who personified flamboyance and style. Along with the Beatles, many of my generation grew up almost worshipping this fantastic footballer. Like another over achiever, Borg, his personal life was erratic - a privilege that comes with the territory, as they say. May his soul rest in peace.
