Oh! Thank God I am so happy that the interest in cricket is dying. This is the happiest day of my life. Game of Cricket: 22 players play and >220,000 fools watch. And most of them are South Asians. I don't know why Indians adore a game plagued by match fixing. Atleast people in England ,Australia are becoming sane. Message to people: Start watching soccer, motorsport, Hockey etc....

its not true
by sourabh on Jun 04, 2005 09:40 AM

with the advent of globalisation many things have spread across the globe and so has cricket. cricket is spreading its wings in countries like argentina, columbia and many other parts of the world and becoming a hit. one of the reasons being that football is becoming too voilent and one cant go in a stadium with their families. cricket has always been a family sport which one can enjoy with their freinds and relatives on wuite weekend. what we are forgetting is that sports is meant for fun and not for victories or defeats. if some schoolkids can identify an average epl player and not vijay hazare then same can be said that a normal indian can identify many current ranji players but would definatly not be able to identify greats like garrincha
P.S one cannot win an argument with examples.

I agree

I have been noticing this trend over the past year. I think cricket is on its downward slide. My bet on the next big sporting craze for India would be soccer.

Foolish Article
by Ramesh on May 31, 2005 02:22 AM

Cricket isnt a global phenomenon .. neither is Soccer ( look at India, China and other dont care a damn for soccer nations :)

The only sport that can be considered globally popular is Tennis .. popular in Asia Australia and the Americas ...

Formula 1 comes close but doesnt cause a stir in the US ... so stop writing bullshit articles

Talk all that you want....even if 25% of indian crowd start becoming as passionate about other sports, when a cricket match starts, everyone will still want to know the score, watch the match! Just because right now cricket is on a break in india and there are tons of sports to follow, doesnt mean cricket dies! u dont have to love just one sport you know! Cricket will survive and do well for itself....i dont need to see the whole world play the sport to watch and enjoy the sport.

INDEED

Cricket being a sport which we Indians have inherited and inherited is one thing we never forget be it Colonial Laws or latest Fashion or lifestyle trends.

Whereas the whole World has found ways of its own be it Sports or lifestyle, we always look forward to other countries to formulate and make our trends.

The amount of time involved in Cricket is one factor which is killing interest of people. Whereas earlier Indians had time to watch a whole day game, the coming generation does not seem to be inching towards having such a long day to watch 2 teams slog all day.

Cricket indeed is inching towards its Death.

Loss of interest in cricket
by Vinod Nair on May 28, 2005 05:34 PM

I do agree with the article, although i love watching & to some extend playing cricket. If you look at other sports such as football, tennis or our own hockey, will come to know how much stamina and skill is required. Considering the duration of the this games makes them further interesting.

Indian cricket at the moment
by padmanaban subramanian on May 28, 2005 05:22 PM

It is true that there are many games othen than crik whetrein the rtesoluteness of a team which had shown exwmplary performance & fightback to win the trophy - liverpool & arsenal. At the sametime there are some teams in crik which are faring very badly much against their reputation like the windies now.India have already proved its worth against pakis recently and now, after the induction of Mr Greg as the new coach, look for regaining its form.In the process it will be most appropriate that coach ahs much say in the team selection so that the country's pride will be safeguarded and push/pull by some ungraded men get eliminated.Atleast hereafter the team should be selected purtely on merits and only performers are selected to the national side.Nowthat the Dutt has also gone, the BCCI should wakeup to rejuvenate the game under the stewardship of Mr Greg and regain its past glory. We donot want sick and injured in the team for the sake of honour but genuine fighters/players.In this regard no compromise be made and MrGreg shoulnot be susceptible to the pressures of Dalmiyas and Mores in proper team selection. Will the BCCI do justice to the game atleast now to save the pride and imagine?

Well...

Nice article Madam! Nice time for publishing it.
Thanks for givning all the information abt. the other sports. i cld. notice that most of the results u gave are less than 2 weeks old. That explains why cricket is not being watched right now- right now only 4 out 11 international teams are playing the game rest are having an off season. Lets see how good ur article looks when the India SL WI series and the Ashes Series get going.
And as for the popularity of cricket going down, just have a look at how much money cricket generated for the welfare of the tsunami affected people.
