Way back in 1994 I had this privilege of enjoying my Christmas meal with Sir Bobby Robson in the area around Cascais-Estoril on the outskirts of Lisbon. It was a celebration organized for expatriates and Sir Bobby Robson was right there with Mrs. Robson who was active in the Parish activities for expatriates. That Christmas Buffet was international in every aspect. Sir Bobby Robson was doing well with the various top clubs in soccer crazy Portugal. Spectators at Alvalade, Antas and Estadio de Luz revered the dynamic soccer coach. Among the many things we discussed, Sir Robson recalled his not so distant visit to Kolkota with the Eric Gerets led PSV Eindhoven. His Dutch team returned to the Netherlands undefeated. Prior to taking that successful trip to India he said he had heard much about football in India. In those days names like Sudip Chatterjee, Prashanta Bannerjee, Krishanu Dey, Bidesh Bose, Manoranjan, Tarun Dey, Prem Dorji and Bhaskar Ganguly were drawing attention in football circles even beyond the borders of our country.
