Typically, politicians promise to make things better so that everyone can get a decent job, rather than directly handing out jobs, which is illegal. But Indian politics is still based on this corrupting patronage system. In all developed nations, other than cabinet positions, no govt official can directly give a job to anyone, but rather all job applications must go through official proceedures. In India this is the ultimate form of corruption - the quid-pro-quo; vote for me and I'll pay you back personally.

Kerala is one the most educated States and its people shine all over the world, but in politics they are immature, selfish and self-aggradising. I wish they had risen to the occasion and taught him a lessen. He and his political coteries should be banished from Kerala politics if the State has to improve and catch with other prosperous States.
