We are pleased to see a number of top soccer coaches coming up in the tiny state of Goa. Former Salgaocar and India defender Derrick Pereira is a distinguished member of this elite tribe. Our best wishes to Derrick in Mumbai and to his successor Mathew D'Costa at Vasco Sports Club. Arjuna award winner Brahamanand Shankwalkar, Savio Madeira and Norbert Gonsalves, all former Salgaocar stars, are shaping well as coaches with different teams in the state. Former Dempo players too have exhibited their fine sense for coaching. Leading the pack is the dynamic Armando Colaco who has just won the recent Fed Cup and the NFL in the same year. Earlier under Armando's stewardship Dempo won the NFL II as well. Mauricio Afonso, Mahesh Lotlikar, Camilo Gonsalves, Babu Arolkar, Francis D'Souza and Soccorro Coutinho have shown fine sense for coaching. Marcos Pacheco, Peter Valles, Vishwas Gaokar, Lawrence Gomes and Vallabh Mahambrey are rendering enormous service to the game in Goa. After the coaching era of Bob Bootland, Ratnam, Shanmugham, Chatunny, Danny Mclean and Shabbir Ali, local soccer coaches are displaying fine sense of dedication, discipline and commitment. Best of luck to all of them.
