Kudos to Sania
by Srikanth Garladinne on Jan 26, 2005 12:20 PM

Congrats Sania!!!
Its great to see Indian Player in a big Grand slam, that too hitting powerful shots..
Its just a stepping stone for Indian tennis and a long way to go to call ourselves as a Tennis nation.
No need to over hype or be complacent about this single event...
Best of luck to Indian tennis...

Great Job

Hi sania,
While congratulating on your performance i wish as a well wisher to remind you thatyou have after all reached only 3rd round when most of the girls of your age win grand slams. Most of the indians have flopped in the international Arena because they dont dream of big achievements and work towards it.Iam sure you know that its not just enough to say that you want to be in the top 5 ,it requires devotion, dedication and desire to be there.Take control of the fame and do not get defoccused from your mission.
Good Luck and God Bless you and India

Encourage, not pamper
by Suren on Jan 25, 2005 09:23 AM

Indian media seems doing the same as usual, pampering an sports person and making them idol. Its good Sania Mirza has won two games which no other Indian has done before. It shows what pathetic condition Indian sports are at. Its understandable to encourage an raising tennis player, but don't spoil her with too much exposure. Let her do her work, and let her know what she has done is climbing one step and there are more steps ahead. Hope she won't get carried away by the media hoopla.

Don't beat your chest for doing nothing
by vikas on Jan 25, 2005 04:39 AM

What a pity that her reaching only in the third round has been glorified like anything. Now she will adorn the ads and promos for various brands to earn as much money as she could and will not be focussed on her game at all. I watched the game and she was not even 1% OF WHAT SERENA was. So stop lauding the useless efforts please.

Tennis vs. Cricket? Bah Fudge!!
by Haris on Jan 25, 2005 12:26 AM

There is a widely held erroneous that "cricket is just another game"....

The party line should always remain: CRICKET & SPORTS :-/

Tennis could very much climb up to be the lead sport in India! Whoho - Cricket is supreme! Period!!

Climbing drumstic tree!!

What Sania did is good but she needs to do more. It is quite common in India that someone shines all of the sudden with some degree of performance and they are given so much of public exposure and subsequently fail to show improvement, rather with the same pace they disappear from the arena! It is better if Sania keeps away from flattery and media exhibitions. There is much to achieve that what she has done so far. She needs to focus on game than interviews!!

she's the desi version of Anna Kournikova !!!
by ujjwal mazumder on Jan 24, 2005 11:29 PM

apart from her laudable exploits on the pitch at Melbourne, what she impresses is with her innocent but very model like looks and the attributes ...

well, she denied wanting to be like Anna Kournikova, the fabulous Russian pin-up beauty, but I guess she can be one if she maanges to play as well as she did in the Grand slam ...

Good luck ....
