This incident is the worst example of the so salled
"sportsmanship spirit" of the indian players!
They can go to any extent to show their frustrations and anger! is this the quality of the players who represent India on the international level????
Deepak! India needs u! plz get well soon!this is a gal frm Himachal Pradesh praying for u!
may you get well soon! God will help you!
take care of yourself

Thakur mauled by opponent

This is extreme and it should be taken as national damage. Thakur is hopes of every Indian including Punjab and nobody should be allowed for this kind of act. He (the attacker) did a crime equal to the insult of National Flag and he should be equally punished. But I am afraid, history of Punjab police says the story itself. In my opinion he should be behind the bars forever.

Disgraceful on the part of punjab police player
by jyotdeep singh on Feb 26, 2005 08:10 PM

Sure its good to want to win but this is no way of competing. Players should realise that this is a sport and has to be played sportsmanship and honour.
I speak on behalf of most of our countrymen and wish Deepak Thakur and hope he gets well soon.

Punjab Police players are dangerous !!
by RK on Feb 26, 2005 07:55 PM

Hi all,
I an hockey adict staying in hyderabad and I closely watched every Premier Hockey Match(PHL).
I have closely watched Punjab Teams and some of the players especially who represents "Punjab Police" at domestic level of the game play really dangerously and behave like cops in the field with an attitude "Cops are always right".They charge umpires with stick, hit other players with stick, play dangerously,etc...They are perhaps the most short temper sportsmen any game in the history whould have witnessed.
In one the matches at PHL, even his excellency President of Indian Hockey Federation(IHF) Mr.K.P.S.Gill was seen scolding them after a match.
This kind of egoistic attitude would not help the game and sports at large.
Having seen their game, today's incident is not a shock or surprise to me.I hope IHF takes a serious note of it and ensure such things don't repeat.
I convey Mr.Deepak Thakur best wishes and hope he gets well soon.

From
Hockey Fan.....

deepak thakur seriously injured
by suresh on Feb 26, 2005 05:15 PM

if the player does the wrong thing intensionally, he must be punished severly, otherwise next time other player may do thing in the same way. this is the universal truth that one win the otherone loose the game.so, we should not allow these types of negative things into the sports.
