I think Sania Mirza is being over hyped in the media. She is just a young woman who is still trying to establish herself on the international tennis arena. All this media blitz can have a negative effect of taking her focus away from tennis.
In view of the perceived threat, it is the right step that she has been provided with security. She definitely needs it because of her celbrity status combined with good looks.
