No doubt Indian hockey have hit the rock bottom. No doubt winning and loosing is part of the game but it is disgusting to watch India loose again and again. If Mr.Gill does not wake up who will shake him.The selection committee is equally responsible. Why can't they all unite and put up a combine front in the interest of the game and prestige of our country.I know it is easier said than done. But only selectors can take drastic decisions and decide the fate of hockey in our country. They need to be honest to their job and if they are unable to bring the desired changes they should move on and allow others to try.
Inpite of Indian Hokey being brought down to its knees by this single (KPS Gill) person over this long period of time that he had been at the helm of it. No one seems to be doing anything about it. It is not the first time that we are hearing about the top players complaining about KPS Gill. Is any one hearing? Does he report to anyone? Pakistan winning the tournament and India finishing 7th in the same tournament tells the story.
Aslam sher khan has put it quite nicely and briefly. for Indian hockey to survive Gill should be removed. This one move will go a long way in eradicating corruption, highhandedness and bring Indian Hockey to past glory.
We make the same mistake again and again without realizing the competencies required for the role. Do we need a Policeman to run Sports Club ? Is the Super Cop is competent to Head a National Sports Organisation ? or Is the nation owe to a man for his duties and to oblige him, he has been given a post without evaluating his capabilities, leaving behind many competent people (sports personalities) for the job ? KPS Gill is not shown the responsibilities associated with his present role and in my view, it should not have been expected too. Leading a Police force and Sports People require absolute different qualities and competencies. As a respectable man, he should step down after the poor performance of the team. But if required, he should be shown the exit door soon.
It is very unwise on the part of the government to use posts of sports organisations to fill with retired govt. officials. They try to find their erstwhile power in these posts and make a mess of the careers of the players and ruin a team. A shining hockey player like Dhanraj Pillai was haressed just becz he did not bow to the ego of these corrupt officials!
Its is such a shame, one of our Desi Game and we are in out of class against the world including Pakistan (which has less fund to support their players & training & infracture).
Its a shame that few top people rule the roost and are not accountable like many European countries.
Mr. Gill I have load of respect for you as a Super Cop, but if you cannot do a Superman stuff for the Indian Hockey Team-- I'm afraid you will have to take responsibilty of the poor show and resign your post.
