Arjuna awards
by Hari on Sep 17, 2004 12:26 PM  | Hide replies

Bobby, stop complaining like a child. Don't get sad comparing with your country athletes, compare your performace with the world athletes. The indian government should stop giving Arjuna awards for each and every athlete, they shold make a rule that they would get it only if they win in some in some world championships like olympics. Winning at Asian level is ok but not great.
By raising the awards bar, I hope our athletes would start thinking of acheiving something big, rather than concentrating on some petty championship.

RE:Arjuna awards

Hey Bobby, this is Hari again. I am sorry for the harsh criticism, it just came out from the frustration seeing our country's dismal performance in olympics. I don't understand why our athletes get content with small results, for example Paes at the beginning of olympics said that he is aiming to win Bronze medal, I don't understand why he wasn't aiming to win gold medal even though he has the potential, this just sums up our country's attitude, we always get content with small results. I only wish that I have chosen sports instead of engineering career, its a gift to be a athlete and you already have the potential to become world class athlete, so instead of getting worried about Arjuna award why don't you make a resolution to work more harder and prove everyone wrong, isn't that the best way to prove people wrong ? Awards are good but not everything, your performance will speak for you. Wouldn't people remember Rathore even if he wasn't awarded Arjuna award ? After few years, he will be remembered for the bigger prize he won rather than for the Arjuna award he has received.

Thats Bad. But
by CRRejith on Sep 17, 2004 03:55 AM

That she did not get the award, is a bad thing to happen.

But, leaving the sport she so dearly loves just for the sake of a award, proves that she only wants award & not self satisfaction.

She is not doing justice to the sport by quitting.
Trying harder and being the best in all hardships is more sportsman-like.

Don't give up
by Anindita Gupta on Sep 16, 2004 09:08 PM

It's a real shame what has happened. But giving up is not the way to go if one wants to protest. Because once you give up, noone will even look back to check on you. The best answer is to do even better and show the men in power, what you are all about. India has little sports culture, and whatever exists is being flushed into the drain by sports administrators who probably have no idea of what sports are all about. It's a sad day for all sport lovers, and it keeps coming back every year after the Arjuna awards. So don't give up on yourself... keep fighting. God Bless You.

sickening is what all i can say
by renny abraham on Sep 16, 2004 07:14 PM

a talented sportsperson of aloysius caliber is no way to be treated like that, after all no other sportsperson in this discipline has scaled as much as she has.if the country can bring back dhanraj back into the team, the people are even capable of giving her the award that has been eluding her after giving her best for the country when ever she participates. BOBBY ALOYSIUS,DONT QUIT,WE ARE BEHIND YOU.

It is sad that she has been excluded from the Arjuna Awardees List. But she should fight back and not give up.
In fact she should aim for bettering her records and give that as a slap on the face of the officials who did not reccommend her for the award.

Let us all unite in stopping this atrocious behaviour of powers that be. And I hope the President is capable of sorting things out. After all that's why he is the president.

May God bless Bobby and provide her strength to battle it out the right way.

After Dhanraj-another
by Ashish on Sep 16, 2004 06:30 PM

After Dhanraj Pillay, another Indian sportsperson is crestfallen becoz of authorities negligence towards them. When will India learn that it needs to respect its players and treat them with what they deserve. I have read the entire story on different websites and newspapers and I am convinced that she deserves the award.
Then, its not just the award, in general its the problem with Indian sports Authority ,they are totally paralyzed with internal politics and controvery.

Athletics Vs team sports?
by Kiran Keshav on Sep 16, 2004 06:13 PM

While I agree that Bobby was given a raw deal, I think it's unfair for her to demand that athletics be given higher priority than other sports like football, cricket etc. Going by Bobby's logic, players from team sports would be unfairly deprived of awards. Just going be the number of medals they would bring to the country is a tad narrow minded. Would you think a bronze medallist in discuss throw at the SAF games should deserve an award more than, say, a Hockey player from an Asian Cup winning team simply because he is not one of the 2 best players in the team? Sorry Bobby, but I beg to differ. I do, however, agree that you probably deserved the award more than some of the others who won it.
