India not good in any sport!
by Muralidhar Rao on Sep 03, 2004 03:27 PM

When was the last time India won the Olympics or the World Cup in hockey? India has never won the Champions trophy. Why are Indians bemoaning India's poor run in International hockey? India is out of the medals race as far as hockey is concerned. In which sport is India really good at? None. So quit whining and look for your entertainment somewhere besides international sports. Indians are not going to shine in international events. There is no use simply criticising. Indians simply cannot excel in sports. If they were they would have done so by now.

plight of pillay

isn't it shameful that one of the greatest players of hockey had been of pawn of all the internal politics of the federation where only money hungry person with no background in the game tends to play with our national game team which was a major hoppe for a athens medal. its shameful that no body ever raise a voice ... is INDIA and MEDIA listening?

In India, two characteristics are essential for being a successful sportsman. Sports skill and Pliancy. You better not rub the sports officials in wrong way. Many a player, (Dozens - perhaps hundreds) has had his career shattered because some or other official was offended by him.

Some of the best players and sportsmen have been the targets of official's/captain's wrath. Dravid found no place in the Indian cricket team for almost a year. Dinesh Mongia is out for more than two years for no good reason. Abhijit Kale has been subjected to worse insults. If that is the case for the most visible sport, you can imagine the plight of the players playing other games.

For last 6-7 years, it is clear that KPS Gill didn't like Dhanraj and Dhanraj suffered as a result. In the process, Indian team and Indian Hockey suffered, but who cares?

KPS Gill should go
by Arun on Sep 03, 2004 01:58 AM

I think once KPS Gill goes the Indian Hockey will come to a proper shape. Indians have a lot of talents but it needs to be utilised in the proper manner.

Hey Everyone,
Why in the entire world isnt there anyone to screw K P S Gill the way he is screwing our Indian Hockey. I just wish he dies as soon as possible. Not only he but even we Indians dont take a single step to change things around. Why isnt there anyone now to lit the houses of hockey federations members or throw stones at there places or may be dung. They deserve it ......................................................

i think mohd shahid is correct,
i remember those days when shahid was a great player in form but he used to be given chance only to play in last half an hr.
i think some kind of monopoly is there,
gagan ajit singh was not in the form,
baljit singh was playing worse, and still they were given more chance than pillay who was playing better than others.
dilip tirkey and dhanraj pillay were the only two players who showed international class.
i think first kps gill should resign, then the players who couldnt even trap the long passes of dilip tirkey, whould be removed, the selevtion wholud be performance wise and not regional.
we so called educated class oppose reservation in employement , then why dont we oppose un-said regional reservation which is given to panjab players ?
thanks
arvind

Kalpataru Tripathy
Performance of Indian Hockey Team at Athens
by Kalpataru Tripathy on Sep 02, 2004 11:00 PM

What I fail to understand are:

1. Why can we not ask clarifications from the appointing authorities of the Foreign Coach and the other officials responsible for such dismal performance of the Country (which was once the World Champions for decades)?

2. Why can we not have ex-olympians and other senior, retired players at the helm of affairs at IHF?

3. Why can we not expect resignations of IHF top brass on moral grounds (if at all he is not being removed)?

4. What happens to the team suddenly that wins Asia Cup some time ago and losses so tamely on other days?

5. Why do we see sudden changes in any winning combination, without reasons for the same?

6. Who can answer all such questions and why do we not have a body answerable to such genuine concerns of over a billion people (wasting so much of our money)?
